QPRâs Smith stalls over Cardiff move 21/08/2012 by David McIntyre Cardiff Cityâs bid to sign Tommy Smith from QPR appears to have stalled. The 32-year-old forward is not in Rangers manager Mark Hughesâ first-team plans and Bluebirds boss Malky Mackay is hoping to persuade him to move to Wales. Mackay, who recently signed Heidar Helguson from the Râs and is close to capturing Matt Connolly, knows Smith well from their time together at Watford. Smith has been told he can leave Loftus Road, but by Tuesday morning he seemed no closer to deciding his future. âThereâs been an enquiry from Cardiff and certainly thereâs an opportunity for Tommy to go there if he wants to,â Hughes told West London Sport. âThatâs been on offer for a little bit of time though and hasnât really progressed, so I donât know where things stand with that at this moment.â
He'll not feature for us this year so it depends whether he wants to play football or pick up a bigger pay packet. Perhaps the latter, at his age. Still a very decent Championship player without being exceptional in any particular way.
