QPRâs Mbia in tug-of-war By Elliott Jarrold ⋅ April 22, 2014 ⋅ Post a comment Filed Under Everton, Inter Milan, liverpool, qpr, Sevilla, Stephane Mbia QPR midfielder Stephane Mbia is in a tug-of-war between 2 English clubs, a Spanish & a Italian club, according to FranceFootball. Mbia has reportedly been in contact with Everton, Liverpool, Sevilla & Inter Milan, who all want to sign the midfielder this summer. Mbia, who can play in midfield & defence is out of contract at QPR in the summer & is set to leave on a free transfer. The Cameroon international has been out on loan at Spanish side Sevilla this season. Reports in France suggest that Mbia is hesitating between a move to Everton or Liverpool.
Yes, it is true. He's waiting on conformation as to whether the Everton bench seats are padded or not and to see what teams Liverpool's under 21s side are up against next season.
I'm more puzzled over the fact that he's out of contract - how come someone who would have a market value was only given a 2 year contract & yet we seem to give out multiple years to the those at the end of their careers or with a poor injury records
The likes of MBia would not sign on for more than a couple of years with a club like QPR. The all want to play for the top clubs and get Champions League football, etc. QPR (and most lower prem/upper championship teams) is seen as a stepping stone club for a lot of foreign players and therefore a younger player (on advice from his agent!) would never commit himself to more than a couple of years unless it was for a top side. Success might have given us the opportunity of getting him to sign an extension - if no higher profile clubs came in for him. So then you are left with older players who will only sign if they get long, lucrative contracts. Otherwise you are taking a gamble on much younger players. Hughes and Redknapp will have been told to keep us up/take us up to where the BIG money is ... the Prem. You can't take chances with lots of younger, unproven players. It is a short term fix, that is all. So experience it is. (The fact that many of the experienced players have underperformed or been injured more than expected is beside the point here.) It would have been nice to see a team built from scratch to mature together - a mixture of young players with a few older, wiser, more-experienced heads, weeding as you go along. That would take several seasons to achieve. We NEED to get the BIG payoff of promotion asap. If we are relegated straight away then so be it, but at the moment we are paying for/suffering from the mistakes of the past whether it be Warnock's signing of the overpaid Barton, the over-rated SWP and the invisible Young; Hughes' stupidity in signing the likes of the overpaid Mbia, Diakite, Cesar, etc, and his over-the hill, trusted mates, AJ and Zamora; Harry's poor purchases since - especially Boswanka. We are, in my opinion, in the right place at the wrong time.
We only sell quality players who we signed that have been playing to or above their potential .................. I don't believe we've sold any to date. The other reason we don't sell our players is that retirement is their only forward destination. In Remy's case, he has a buyout clause so we have to sell him cheap. In other words, not only do we get screwed over buying them in but were left with pittance at the exit door as well. Nice.
Ahem, we sing from the same hymn sheet. This is not the way I would have like to see the team go but I understand the need. New ground, new training facilities, new progressive owners come with a price and we are paying at the moment but if we get up and stay up we will see the benefit in the long term. Short term pain for long term gain is how I see it.
Apparently there is an option in his contract where we could extend it for a year. We could take up that option which would then enable us to sell him and get a transfer fee, but then it runs the risk that nobody would buy him! Personally I would cut our losses and let him go on a free!
Hollywood calls.... the actors there make insane money too. He of all people must have a future in that trade.
I'd like to see him stay, he is a good player, confirmed by what he is doing at Seville. But can only see that as a possibilty if we get up to the PL.
Half the Stadium are chanting his name this minute in the Europa League final. They really love him there.
