Video recall showed that the goal was off-side...by as much as a pimples worth on the Ecuadorians knee cap.

I still don't think there was an offside in their VAR disallowed goal so I have just watched it again a dozen times. When the ball is played he is yards onside and is only infront of the defender when he plays the ball back into the middle. The VAR man was Italian...........Hmmmmm!!!!.

    England v Iran today.

This match has the makings of a tinder box just waiting for a spark to ignite it.

England will be taking the knee.....but the main problem will be their support for gay rights....Kane will be wearing the "One Love" armband supporting gay rights......which FIFA have banned.

Kane could get an automatic yellow card for doing that.

Personally I think that is all small fry compared with what is going on in their opponents country....Iran are killing women for not wearing the appropriate head dress......women are showing far more guts in that country against the Islamic States extreme views then men are.......demonstrating in thousands that enough is enough and change is needed.

England should not be playing Iran at football or any other sport at the moment and if FIFA make them then come straight home and .....that would highlight to the many millions watching that we do not tolerate extreme Islamic interpretation of womens rights.

If we do get to the football.....we might find Iran are a harder nut to crack then many think.

    England...6-2...Iran.

Iran get a dubious penalty at the end....needed some consistency from the Ref and video Ref.....at the start of the game England had a player rugby tackled to the ground and for some reason it was not given.

There will be harder games than this.

Well FIFA don’t approve of universal love and threatened penalties if such emblems were displayed. Not entirely in tune with the zeitgeist then, very much as they endorse corruption and the rest of the world doesn’t.

Good performance generally from England. Will be disappointed to have conceded two but the first was an unexpected brilliant strike and the second a very doubtful penalty, given Maguire was hauled down for a much worse one in the first half.

Good start but will need to be tighter at the back against the bigger fish.

    Senegal...0-2...Nederlands

Only watched the first half of this one....pretty even at half-time...0-0.

The Nederlands didn't look like they would get to the later stages....(semi-finals etc).

    As are all games........

I was out this evening but watched a fair bit of the Wales match. They tried too hard if that's possible. Not sure how that didn't end in a cricket score for both sides showing how desperate they both were for a result at any cost.

As for the England game well it was so one sided it was almost bullying. There is no way on this planet that they deserved a penalty at the end. As said previously the pull down in the first few minutes by Iran was so much worse than the one VAR gave that it begars belief and makes everyone wonder after the opening game how much they have been paid in brown envelopes. Not that it matters much in the end. Didn't see anything to worry about with Wales or USA.

It was noticeable that the Iranian players stood in silence during their anthem and the crowd seemed to be supporting that. That’s brave considering the level of repression in Iran. They country is falling apart, which is a good thing in many ways but is likely to make an important but unstable region even less stable in the short term. It’s important to us as in the midst of an energy and cost of living crisis, we really don’t need the oil taps turned off as well as gas.

Yes it was brave of them all. It's a bit different when the people in charge of your life could take it at any time. Change has to start somewhere and it does look as if this current uprising isn't fading away. Problem is that most of the World around them is weak and only looking out for self interest. They won't get the help they need in this case.

I watched the Germany-Japan game. I’m not going to say Japan were the better side but they wanted it more, chasing down everything throughout. The Germans seemed to think he had some sort of entitlement but scored only through a dodgy penalty. A thoroughly deserved victory for Japan.
