So it looks like it will be played in winter and not April/May as suggested by the board of elite European clubs. I don't support the football league being disrupted midseason and so would a boycott of the games be a possibility from the World Cup be a good option by football leagues against a winter World Cup.
What a joke A country with no history of football and weather conditions not conducive to the sport either Strip them of the award of the WC and let's see it done properly and awarded to someone more deserving. Either that or get the major countries to boycott the qualifying rounds so that no-one turns up
The only way they won is by chucking more money at it than Portugal's total economy. It's clear that money affected the desicion to award the World Cup to Qatar. Personally Australia should have got it as it would've been in their winter and so fairly cool, while the other three countries had held it recently.
I think that decision would also have been questionable. It's hardly a footballing Mecca when we've not held it since 1966 yet Mexico and Germany have both held it twice since. I'm all for spreading the football Gospel but it should be proportionate to world standings and when a country last held it.
Quite agree with the above, but money is clearly a bigger influence- Its for the same reason that Grand prix's are held in countries not previously associated with it- Personally find Scalextric more exiting though. It not like the old days with Jackie Stewart, James Hunt etc
Every country's FA is s**t struck of Blatter and Platini. Why don't we/they say f88k you, we'll have our own World Cup. Why does the game have to be run by crooks. We should give up on these clowns.
I love the idea of most footballing nations purposely losing, and the Qatar World Cup being full of teams like San Marino, Namibia, and Burkina Faso.
The trouble is RP that applies to most FA's in Europe - Blatter has huge support in the other Federations which means even if Europe challenges him, he will probably win Hugely frustrating!
OK, So let him/them win. Just been listening to Hodgson, almost another SOD, I really couldn't care any more about the England set up. And let's be fair our FA is almost as far away from reality as Blatter and co.
Totally corrupt bollocks - it's a disgrace that Qatar won it in the first place, let alone then be allowed to ruin dozens of European leagues' seasons. Why don't they just give the ****ing tournament to Islamic State and be done with it. Blatter and Platini should be thrown into a large pit of oil which is then set on fire.
Doesn't bother me it being played in winter. I doubt it'll affect the lower/non league season and I really couldn't give a **** about the **** premier league moaning about it. Qatar being awarded the WC in the first is hardly surprising, the top end of football is all about money. Sentiment, history, tradition means nothing anymore.
Bloody hell, I hate to say it but it's not often I agree with these 2 weird characters but on this one I do, I feel disgustingly dirty, I think I'll have to go and have a shower...
That also pisses me off, particularly as no one voted for us despite us being one of the best candidates with the 1st, 4th, 10th and 15th most watched leagues in Europe and already amazing infrastructure.
FIFA are so thick skinned they don't care that they have been caught with their pants down giving this tournament to Quatar (and Russia) for bribes but the reason why it will be held there no matter what, is they know if they pull it from either of them (and this underlying acceptance from most that the Russian bid is ok still bothers me!) they will start singing like the proverbial canary.. The only way to stop this madness is to withdraw what they want.. money. I'm doing my bit..
Due to the obvious corrupted state of world football today I, like so many others, have lost total respect for the sport that once added enjoyment to my life. Just take a look over your shoulder and tell me when you were last proud of your national team and the performances that they produced? Putting on an England shirt these days almost appears to be an insult both to the players,, for actually telling them they will be representing their country, and certainly to the supporters for having to endure total embarrassment and lack of effort from our national squad. I was rather hoping to see something done about the flood of offshore money and investors lining up to take over our national sport but it is rather like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic because you know it is going to sink but perhaps it should look good on the way down. These foreign investors have no vested interest in English football and are just using it as a way of filtering money from away other jurisdictions and getting a foothold on internationally solid ground for their own future. The original controlling bodies of English football have let us down badly by pussy footing around and coming up with a supposed satisfactory method of vetting these individuals and you only have to look at most of the recent failures of football clubs and their stadiums to see what foreign investment, by what are deemed to be upright and well founded people by the authorities, has done for the game. To add insult to injury the likes of Blatter and Platini are besmirking the game even further by talking out of both sides of their individual mouths, depending on which corrupt nation they are trying to impress, and award the most prestigious tournament in the sport to countries who live in a nether world of corruption and support of all things nasty and detrimental to free human existence. You will notice how England has been given a wide berth by the likes of FIFA and it's backhander culture because we do things the right way and are not prepared to be awarded a tournament based on corruption and deceit. Some may say that we are not being realistic when we expect England to be awarded anything just by being us and given the recent lack of success we have had at the World Cup my recommendation would be to not even enter and give the players, who consistently look as if they don't want to be there anyway, a summer of relaxation and the supporters improved conditions for their heart. Time to stand up and be counted and tell these people that we have had enough of their patriot games and will suffer them as fools no longer, and perhaps it would be best for all concerned if we handed the reins over to the good old Excited States who would instantly invite nobody else and then call themselves World Champions. It makes my memories of being at Wembley in 1966 to see England win even more special when I see the rest of the sport today falling in to disarray and dishonour.
There is a danger perhaps with football that eventually it will kill the Goose that laid the golden egg- There have been problems at smaller clubs where the owner has got bored and pulled out and it may only be a matter of time before it happens at a higher level
You can also think about what would happen if overseas owners were told that the tax rate has been upped for their type of investment because, essentially, we want you out. If the ownership rules required that there should be a least a 65% British based investment group involved in the daily administration of the club what would happen in the overall scheme of things? Do you seriously think that some of today's ownership moguls would blink an eye if it came down to their personal well-being versus the viable future of the club, and I think without a doubt that they would bail out and let the ship sink.
