In their wi$dom, FIFA have decided it'$ too hot in June and July, $o the tounament will mo$t likely be in Nov -> Jan.

Thereby di$rupting the dome$tic league$ of all European countrie$ participating in the f**king farce.

$hambolic behaviour by a lunatic governing body! <grr>

Although I agree Qatar was a bad choice for the venue, I can't say I'm overly bothered that the European leagues' seasons (English leagues in particular) will have to be altered.

It's almost as if all that money made them not realise that Qatar is a hot in the summer!

There needs to be some sort of governing body for FIFA because from the outside it seems that every man and his dog is corrupt in some way in that organisation.

They've denied it now. I would be interested to see it played in november as it will put an end to the whole England do badly because our players a exhausted after and long season and no winter break argument

I wonder if it was 'leaked/announced' unofficially first in order to gauge the reaction to it. Once they've decided what the backlash will be like, they'll decide whether to go through with it or not.

The whole event should be boycotted by teams and fans alike. It is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. FIFA would make a good acronym for something other than International Football!

Another example of the corruptness at the highest levels of FIFA that has only dawned on me is how on earth did Switzerland land up amongst the top seeds at the expense of Holland, Italy, Mexico etc? I know it's based on the FIFA rankings, but how on earth did Switzerland get as high at 7th?

Nothing to do with it being Blatter was born now is it? <whistle>

More to do with them making the most of the FIFA points ranking system with regards to their competitive fixtures and friendlies. Whether Blatter and friends had some tips for them along those lines, I can't say.

    EDIT: bit more info here:http://www.theguardian.com/football...-seeded-switzerland-world-cup-draw-friendlies

...and how convenient that now the seedings have been decided and the draw has taken place that Switzerland suddenly drop down the rankings to be overtaken by both Italy and Portugal, despite the fact Italy haven't won a game since September.

Hmmmmmmm, this particular thick is definitely plotting!

And look at the group they ended up in - France, Ecuador and Honduras, anyone with a cynical mind might even suggest that Blatter and Platini might have sorted themselves out there <whistle>

    That article highlights two things:

-Why is the ranking system so daft that the way you organise your meaningless friendlies can cost you a seeding berth?
-Secondly, why aren't our FA savvy enough to realise that these friendlies are important, and organising tricky friendlies for commercial benefits?

It is eh? Interesting to see how the organisation of fixtures can be key to how countries end up in the world rankings.

Australia? World Cup? Not in the right TV time zone folks. Also no money in it for FIFA.
Qatar - perfect. Time zone brilliant. Largest growing young population in the world at the moment = ripe time to sell football as a brand.
