http://blogandwhitehoops.wordpress.com/2011/04/26/q-p-r-sort-of-get-promoted/ The Dream is sort of achieved. After a long flight from London to L.A a few years ago I was tired, hungry and excited. As the plane landed I gathered my bag, waited for the cabin doors to open and slowly wiated for the opportunity to disembark the plane. Once out of the single file queue I began on an epic race weaving in and out of fellow dawdling Brits. My aim was to reach Passport Control before they did because if thereââ¬â¢s one thing I hate itââ¬â¢s standing in line for numerous hours waiting for your passport to be stamped when all you want to do is go on holiday. I made record time, I bobbed and weaved my way through and lo and behold I had actually made it out to the front. Standing before me was a gleaming empty Customs hall with no lines whatsoever and three friendly boarder control officers ready to stamp my passport and wave me through. Then as it seemed I would be waltzing through passengers from a flight which had just landed from South Korea poured into the the room, in front of me and I had to wait. I was in L.A but I was still stuck in the airport and until my passport was stamped I technically hadnââ¬â¢t arrived. And so Q.P.R wait. Only the mathematicians and the pessimists can deny us now, but it all just feels so flat. This state of limbo has begun some petulant and epic infighting across the messageboards as some celebrate whilst others still worry. The truth is that for a few glorious seconds we were there. BBC had plastered it on their website in big capital letters ââ¬ËQPR ARE PROMOTED,ââ¬â¢ Sky Sports News slung it across their yellow ticker and thousands of Hooped fans invaded the pitch. Then Simeon Jackson scored. BBC and Sky took down their declarations pretty swiftly and the fans scuttled back to their seats. As I left the ground I turned to my Dad and we both agreed that of course we are up, but until you see that ââ¬ËPââ¬â¢ next to your name as a fan you wonââ¬â¢t be satisfied. The pitch invasion was inevitable. I donââ¬â¢t begrudge the fans who ran on the pitch their moment to emulate what we have seen countless times over the last fifteen years as sides pour onto their hallowed turf and sing the night away. I, as a ticket holder in the South Africa Road Upper, was not going to be invading the lush grass of Loftus Road yet I was happy to watch the fans who did. I thought Iââ¬â¢d be happy with a point, Iââ¬â¢m not. I want to pick up the papers and read about our achievements, I want to make a collage and put it on my wall, I want to change the picture of my desktop background to one of Adel dancing, but now Iââ¬â¢ll have to wait. We need to avoid defeat to go up, weââ¬â¢ll do it and it will be sweet to do it at Watford but a packed Loftus Road would have been that bit sweeter. The game itself should have been a formality after Routledge opened the scoring. We missed chances and could have been out of sight at the half. Aaron McLeanââ¬â¢s introduction certainly ruffled a few feathers and for my money Warnock was right to introduce Agyemang as Hull had been playing a very high back line. The Ghanian should have repaid his managers faith with a goal to take the roof off of Loftus Road, instead he just hit the roof of Loftus Road. Hullââ¬â¢s late goal was cruel, Norwichââ¬â¢s crueler. From a selfish point of view my short trip to London coincided with Derby, Cardiff, Hull and Watford, I had dreamed of seeing us go up at Loftus Road. It wasnââ¬â¢t to be, we will hopefully do it at Vicarage Road and the fans can party against Leeds. Eventually those Koreans filtered through customs, my passport was stamped and I was able to go on through to the land of plastic people, glittering smiles and silly money, I just had to learn to be patient.
Congratulations to Q.P.R and Niel Warnock ! Of course you will be promoted ! To Rs fans i will say this . Whatever happens next season ,just enjoy! Hope you stay up coz this will garuntee the Tigers six points in the following season !
Great thread Northolt, i to turned to my son who has only seen us in the lower reaches, hugged him, a little tear arrived only for it to be snatched away,Whats another week when you have had 15 years of heart ache, we will travel to Watford spend 90 minutes of agony and then the knowledge that the journey has just begun.
So, northolt, did you spend wisely in LA? Did you buy your favorite jacket? Your most comfortable pair of shoes? Or did you blow it on stuff you've since binned, never used or forgotten you'd had?
I don't know, I have the weekend away and what happens. Great point at Cardiff, bad dropped points against a decent Hull team. We get promoted, then we don't. Warnock being sacked. Who would want to support any other team? Not me.
