Fabrice Muamba collapses on pitch during FA Cup match

Tottenham's FA Cup game against Bolton Wanderers has been abandoned after Trotters midfielder Fabrice Muamba collapsed and stopped breathing.
Medics spent 10 minutes trying to resuscitate the 23-year-old on the field before the players were taken off by referee Howard Webb.
BBC Radio 5 live senior football reporter Ian Dennis says the English midfielder is fighting for his life.
The score was 1-1 when he collapsed with no players close-by on 41 minutes.
Medical staff gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and tried to revive him with a defibrillator. In total six medics were treating the player.
Both sets of supporters chanted Muamba's name as he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher. ESPN reported that he was not breathing as he was taken down the tunnel.
The former Arsenal midfielder has been taken to hospital.
Referee Webb called the visibly shaken players off the field after consulting with managers Owen Coyle and Harry Redknapp.
Minutes later the match was abandoned.

Such a sad sight to see in football and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say I hope Muamba

Really do hope he's okay. He has his whole life ahead of him considering he's only 23 - so young. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Not that there is ever a good age for this kind of thing but 23 is very young with such a bright future ahead. Thoughts are with his family <peacedove>

Sorry but **** happens and he's still alive. Where I come from I can name 17 yes 17 young men who have died tragically in the last 12 months. No one cried for them and had 24/7 news coverage with fake sincerety n the faces of the news anchors

    Pathetic little man.

The event happened on tv, therefore many witnessed it and were probably saddened by it and hope he is ok. Expressing that is just human decency, which clearly you lack, and if nobody at all showed any sympathy over the death of the young men you mention then obviously you don't live in a very nice area.

show some respect. Its not Muamba's fault those other 12 did not get that treatment, so dont write messages like that.

They just said on bbc news that Muamba has signed up to do a degree in accountancy and is very popular in the city of Bolton. He is originally from war torn Congo, and move to England aged 11. To come here and build such a positive career for himself is highly admirable. I really hope he pulls through. It sounds like even if he is not well enough to get back to football soon, he is still smart and talented enough to build a good career for himself.

I've been out all evening and was looking forward to watching the highlights of this game- have just switched on to see this news.
I really hope the lad recovers. There are times when we need to see the bigger picture, and show as much consideration and respect for others as we would if they were our own.

Maybe that's because none of those collapsed on live TV with millions watching. Not to mention that 30,000 odd that witnessed it at the ground. Watching someone fighting for his life and receiving CPR in such a circumstance and in such a public arena is bound to affect everyone that watched it.

WTF hash, he almost dropped dead, his heart just stopped beating and he collapsed and is lucky to be alive. Having known someone at school who died from something very similar (ie an athlete who's heart just randomly stopped) it is a tragic way to go and nothing to be brushed to the side. Muamba's only 23 ffs, poor lad.

This is a case when if you cannot bring yourself to say anything decent then keep quiet.

All the best to Fabrice M. Hope you win that fight.

I think that Hash has had personal experience that has made him so harsh toward such a sad subject, none of us know Muamba but all wish him well. Hash I'm sure will also wish him well.

This touches home with me as I have had to deal with heart problems. Best of luck to Muama and his recovery. More worried now about his lack of oxygen to the brain while he was pretty much out for 6-10 minutes.

This is truly tragic. It is likely he will never play professional football again. As always - at times like this - my thoughts and best wishes are with him and his friends and family. <peacedove>

Apparently his heart was not beating for 2 hours.

Brain dead sadly I would have thought.
