"Put up or shut up" Rotherham boss Steve Evans tells Kieran Agard admirers - Outspoken Rotherham United boss Steve Evans today issued a message to admirers of Kieran Agard, suggesting they should put up or shut up! The Millers are willing to sell last seasonâs leading scorer at the right price and Leeds United and Bristol City have both lodged bids for the 24-year-old striker. Rotherham accepted a fee in excess of £500,000 for Agard from Championship rivals Leeds last Thursday, but the deal fell through the following day when the player was unable to agree personal terms. City manager Steve Cotterill is keen to bolster his strike-force before the transfer window closes at the end of this month and it remains to be seen whether the Robins come back in with an improved offer for a player who scored 26 goals last season. Either way, Millers boss Evans wants the issue to be resolved quickly. He said: âI keep reading about other clubs saying theyâre doing this and doing that. âGet your chequebooks out or shut up and go away. Thatâs your choice. You have to pay the rate that we want or we keep him.â Agard was left on the bench for Rotherham's home game against Wolves at the weekend, a contest the Millers won 1-0. Evans added: âI felt I couldnât start him. Kieran was excused from training on Friday because he went off for talks at Leeds United. âKieran decided that was not the right move for him but because heâs been excused from training and been involved in different dialogue to training and preparing for a match he didnât start. "I had a long chat with him in my office before the game and when we finished that chat I made the decision I would have him on the bench. He was always going to play a part, wasnât he? Heâs a terrific player. âBut if youâre going to get close on £1 million guaranteed for a player like that ... then weâre a football club where everyone has a value. Every club has a value on their players. Tottenham Hotspur had one for Gareth Bale. Manchester United had one for Cristiano Ronaldo.â The Millers manager would still like to see Agard, who has a year left on his present contract, sign a new deal. âWe must have a stronger case for him extending his contract if he doesnât think itâs right for him to take terms elsewhere,â Evans said. âAs Iâve said to Kieran, perhaps the grass is not always greener on the other side.â Read more: http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/shut-R...tory-22761848-detail/story.html#ixzz3AjaJXobj So what should Cotts do, put up or shut up..?
We don't want to be railroaded into paying more than we need to - however £500k probably reasonable?
Sounds like a no brainer to me. We know what we're getting, still only young at 24, fast, can play as a striker and on the wing. Would only improve us and at 500k he's quite cheap.
Sounds like a snip (comparatively!) at £500k BUT if his attitude was so bad that Leeds pulled out of the deal when everyone thought it was a formality, would we be signing a troublemaker ?
Not being funny but have you seen the leeds utd owner? He has to be the biggest prick going. Rotherham say Agard didn't want to move to Leeds as it wasn't a right move for him. Leeds say they didn't like his attitude.
The fee doesn't bother me in the slightest but it does sound like he has a an attitude problem that already makes him a legend in his own mind. Does he want to leave Rotherham or do they want rid of him because of other issues? If he come with the ingredients on the package then the deal is a no brainer, but!
Not being funny if he moves to us then he has no attitude problem. A move back to league 1 means he wants to play football and he thinks this club has a brighter future than Rotherham. Otherwise why move back down a level. Will be on more money at Rotherham or leeds than he would be here.
Yep you're correct, I read that statement twice and you're right it's not funny I want to see him here, but you need to think who is likely to be dropped as you said if he comes here it's to play week in week out.
My question on the nail Shiny and how many other players have come here full of piss and vinegar only to turn our club in to their version of Club Med. The only proof we will ever have is to sign him and see where the chips fall and you just never know - do you?
I think we can probably offer better wages than Rotherham and at the present time we are probably a more attractive and stable option than Leeds in their current situation. Rotherham now have their striker, if we dont sign him in the next couple of days I think we should move on to other targets. We dont want it to go down to the transfer deadline wire and risked being gazumped at the last minute and end up with nobody.
