Darren Purse Argyle Captain has been put on the transfer list. So what's the rumour then ?........Is it because of falling gates and we cannot afford him anymore..........is it because he has had enough and he want's out. Maybe he has had enough of Fletcher and the direction that Brent is taking with the managers casr-iron contract.......and he can only see disaster on the horizon. Purse has not been playing as well as last year.......although a toe injury has been a problem for most of the season........but surely PAFC cannot afford to lose an experienced defender when they are one point off of a relegation spot. It was probably going to be his last season before retirement......didn't he say that he thought he had two seasons left in him or am I wrong there when he first came. Darren Purse has a strong character and probably doesn't suffer fools gladly and maybe he has become a threat to Fletcher's control of the squad and says his bit. If that is the case how far behind him is Paul Wotton.....he surely can't agree with what is going on at the moment.......ok his playing days are nearly over but surely he has been missed during his time out. What is happening at the moment....are things beginning to unravel and James Brent has overdone his support of his failing manager.
It is suggested he's being released [partly at least] due to financial pressure. No surprise that was going to happen, watch for more if gates fall. As you've pointed out, the defence has been a weakness this year and no doubt Purse is costly. Curtis Nelson is now nearly 20 and if he's not going to make it in League 2 at 20, he's not going to make it at all. The WMN also reports that MacDonald would be open to a permanent move to Argyle and if it's a choice between Purse & MacDonald....... I know there have been rumours of an injury but I haven't been able to take Purse's commitment for granted after that strangely convenient red card just before Xmas last year. Those not trying to make a Fletcher issue of everything will note Purse was made captain by Fletcher himself. Hardly a sign of problems between them....
Hopefully this isn't a decision based on the director of football role. I'd rather have a big, ugly centre half than an anonymous person in the stands.
Fair point but then, if you sack Fletcher, you have to pay him off, so you end up paying 2 "managers" for a minimum of 1 year anyway.... Catch 22 I'm afraid.
Sadly I think there is more to this than meets the eye .... Purse coached my U15's and I was very impressed with his coaching skills and that he was a genuinely lovely man !
If they are going to release Purse in January it hardly comes over as being put on the transfer list.........he will be a freeby at his age and maybe now also because of his fitness levels. If it is a money thing then that seems to be a worrying state of affairs that Argyle are in, so who will be next then....Wotton retiring because of injuries........Chadwick because he is a liability.......Feeney because he is not required........Griffiths because he can't make the leap to pro football.....in fact you could carry on through the whole squad. Makes Purse having a legends mural seem very stupid as well........Conference football looks a distinct possibility next season.
Why do we need a director of Football? How much is he being paid we wonder? The next one to go has to be Fletcher! Brent man up and get rid now before it gets a lot worse and the crowds will dwindle slowly. Perhaps that is what Brent has planned.. freak
Purse will be gone by January, apparently there are a few clubs interested in him, cant we flip this on its head and get rid of Fletcher .... wonder if the rumours that he has lost the changing room are true ?
well, if he has lost the dressing room he is a bloody liability. Its made out of concrete and part of the grandstand for gods sake!
You have to laugh or else you'd weep for England with all of this. I'm not going to say that Purse is rubbish or anything but I also don't think the team will miss him that much. He wasn't playing well and hasn't this season so far so not a huge loss on the pitch certainly at the moment. I'm going to read between the lines though and can imagine a conversation between him and Fletcher. Boss this club is a shambles. No it isn't we work our socks off every week. Well I haven't got any socks left and haven't got a clue what we are suposed to be doing. We'll get some more socks but you might have to make do with second hand because of the budget. No money, too many players and nobody knows what to do on the pitch anymore. We'll sort it out in training I've got some brilliant ideas. You're clueless boss and we haven't got a plan A never mind a plan B. In fact, you ought to be thinking of catching a train out of here not taking training. I don't need you I got a lot better youth players. You can't talk to me like that. Tell you what then I'll just F**k off in January and leave you to it then you dumb git. No you won't I'm transfer listing you so you can't just quit. That'll teach you. Whatever see you sometime soon in the Conference then.
