Spotted by Pardew when playing against us for MK Dons. Pardew was a good judge of talent so was Puncheon's mistake that he did not play for Scunthorpe, was not on loan at Scunthorpe or did not have a trial at Scunthorpe.
If the inference of the article is that Adkins only signs players that have previously played for his former club, then you are wrong, De Ridder has never even played in this country before.
It was Puncheon's mistake that he decided to throw his toys out of the pram and abuse Andy Crosby and Nige when he was dropped for Chamberlain due to his own piss-poor performances at the start of the season. He nearly blazed the ball out of St Mary's from 14 yards out FFS. And try to use some logic that is backed up by fact in future. Lambert, Jaidi, Barnard, Fonte, Harding, Richardson, Butterfield, Connolly and Hammond were all brought in by Pardew, and never played for Adkins at Scunny. I don't see any of them falling out with the management, do you??
The surprise to me is that he is actually talking to Saints at all - when on Talk Sport he had nothing but bad words to say about them and especially about our management following Pardew's move away from SMS For that Nicola, add another £100k to Puch's price
To add to that, Chaplow has never played for Scunthorpe either. Anyway, is it really that wrong to sign players that you know and have worked with before. If you know what makes a player tick and how they respond to you from previous experiences, isn't that sometimes better than starting from scratch?
you seen what bradbury's doing down at bournemouth?? exactly that lol - nearly every signing this summer has played with him in the past. not the way to go!
Funny you should say that, Harry Redknapp signed Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe, Niko Kranjčar and Younes Kaboul for Spurs - he knew them from his time at the Skates obviously. Where did he take Spurs - only to the top four in the Premier League and a Champions League quarter final...
I've just realised that I never supported Scunny...... I'll have to stop following Saints. Anyone want me on loan?
If Adkins knows them then it makes it alot easier for them to adjust quickly. But still this thread is written by a tool.
Puncheon's fault was he thinks he is better than he actually is...........You only have to look at the number of clubs he has played for to realise that something is wrong, especially at his early age. So nothing to do with playing for Scunthorpe!!! Incidentally while a manager at Scunthorpe Adkins actually admits to making an enquiry about Puncheon while at Plymouth. He didn't say why he didn't follow it through. Also it would appear the straw that broke the camels back as far as he was concerned was a training ground incident. Followed by a rather no holds barred meeting between him and Adkins that later involved Cortese, which I gather nearly got out of hand. Not sure what Nearly got out hand means but it wasn't pleasant by all accounts. Incidentally again this not the first time or team he has been involved in such a bust up I gather but I have little or no more info on that just hearsay. While you cannot blame everything on Puncheon's shoulders you do have to say that a fair proportion has to go his way.
And in the meantime dock him 2 weeks wages. We had better be careful that he doesn't start tweeting although that must be better than his bleating!
