Looks like we are due a shake up! Dig out your euro decoders!

The European Court of Justice now says national laws which prohibit the import, sale or use of foreign decoder cards are contrary to the freedom to provide services.

The decision could trigger a major shake-up for the Premier League and its current exclusive agreements with Sky Sports and ESPN.

    Thats Excellent news !!!

Will give greedy BSKYB some competition, plus most of the european countries show ALL of the Prems
3pm Kick Off's which Sky dont have the contracts for. You will never see Sky showing any Saturday 3pm games.

I always go to 'PUB' before a City game to enjoy a bite to eat and few bevvies and the pub we go in always shows the earlier kick off matches using foriegn tv sports channels.

In this day an age if a footage match is been broadcast anywhere in the world and can be picked up in the Uk why should'nt we be able to watch it?

I'm all for the shake up, but bet Sky are'nt !!!

I do think Sky and the Premier League will look to protect their investment in some way or another. They have undeniably invested a lot of money into the Premier League, granted the investment has improved something but it has also corrupted the origins of the game and marginalised the very people who created the beautiful game. The next 12-18 months will prove to be an interesting time.

Where can you get euro decoders from at the moment?

Will they become more mainstream following this?

This decision only clears up the legality of owning a decoder box in your own home, it's still up in the air a bit about pubs being allowed them

at least according to the guy the beeb just interviewed

just get a large dish that can pick up the signals direct from the satallites above planet earth.

a mate of mine down saaarrth has a next door neighbour who can pick up all the american sports channels as well and get there feed without any adverts. he says when the yanks go to commercial the off air language is extreme. his dish will pick up any satalitte channel anywhere in the world. all he has to do is rotate it when required. as he has had it many years am sure whatever it cost has been repaid back over the years. like i said, he does not pay any fees as he gets the signal direct from the satallites themselves.

as for sky - espn and the pl they will fight this for sure so i dont expect any change anytime soon.

The court also stated that we are not allowed to watch any copyright material, which the graphics and anthem are apparentley copyright. Lawyers must be rubbing their hands at the moment

check the detail as this is not a definitive decision as such. the wording could still be misconstrued locally in Murdoch's favour I believe

I mention it because its geosynchronous orbit is at 180 degrees East. So, unless he can get a signal through the Earth (or it is relayed to other satellites) then I doubt he can get a signal.

possiibly. but he is a massive american sports channel fan. nba, nhl, mls, nfl, mlb, nascar, indycar, golf, and has no problems getting the live feeds from fox - espn america - nbc - abc to name but just a few. lol.

the dish is massive and sits at the bottom of his garden. its worth looking into getting one if you can afford it. no need to pay anymore monthly subscription fees.

Nothing to do with SKY not having contracts for. They had to agree to that as part of the agreement. Obviously the clubs didn't want other games going out when they were playing as it could impact on crowds.

As for why shouldn't we be able to pick up any game and watch it that is naive in the extreme. Who do you think is broadcasting those games which you are picking up? Yes, SKY. Why would they want someone getting it cheaper than the price they charge here to recoup the mpney they paid the Premier League for rights. If SKY decide to tell european countries because of the new legislation they will have to pay what is paid here and those countries said no (and it wouldn't bother SKY as relatively little of their income comes from Europe) then SKY wouldn't broadcast to them. And then where would people be with foreign decoders?

In actual fact I am quite knowledgeable on this topic/subject and you are wrong my friend, Sky do broadcast to Italy and Germany and show the 3pm games but many other foreign broadcasters show live Prem games, in fact some of the Prems live games are FREE TO AIR, therefore all you need to pick up this FREE content in the UK is a satelite dish of at least 1 metre, preferably motorised so you can spin it to which ever satelite the broadcast is been fed on and hey preston your in business.

UK Sky do not have the rights to broadcast the 3pm games here in the UK but they do in other european countries.

Sky 'already' do sell to European countries, your way wrong.

Sky Sports is indeed broadcast in Italy and Germany, it's also in America and Australia(as Fox Sports) and in Asia(as Star Sports).

I can almost accept Sky having some say in the broadcasts, given the investment they've made. as I understand it, it's the Prem that visit and prosecute pubs for showing three o'clock games, but oddly not evening kick offs.

At least they seem to have realised how anal they looked telling parents they couldn't take photos of their kids because sky had the copyright.
