After Turner's performances for us so far, isn't it time to dump this idea once and for all? There is a minority of players who are exceptionally good, but we will never be able to afford one of those (discover, perhaps, but not pay for). The rest of players are much of a muchness, and will succeed in a good system and fail in a poor one. We saw last season how a bunch of 'lesser' players from lower leagues can survive and do well in the top flight. And, on the whole, except for days when we played the very best teams and got spanked, this wasn't backs-against-the-wall Crazy Gang stuff. We matched most teams in terms of our football, as well as our spirit. I've said on another post and I'd like to repeat it here - if a player 'of Premiership class with Premiership experience' is available, it's generally because he's not much good. At the very least, he'll be overpriced. If a club like ours with very limited resources want to survive, they need to recruit well from the lower leagues and abroad, make good use of the loan system, and develop their own young talent. They won't do it by picking up Premiership also-rans for a couple of million quid.
A couple of seasons ago, he looked a very good player. I don't know what has happened to him since, but he looks pretty terrible. I don't like to isolate one player usually as everyone should take their own share of the blame, as a team. However, this guy has looked terrible. I rather have Ryan Bennett back in the side.
