Just got home and watched the first half. Crowd fully behind the team and no real signs of protest other than shirts with messages of thanks to Nigel. Great stuff that's the way to support your side! COYR!
Saints have been brilliant so far. Make no mistake though, Everton are an excellent side, and even to draw with them would be an achievement. I'd very much like a win though.
I was very happy too, only a few chants about nigel which was good, shows we respected what he did. Fully got behind the team. Was really worried some would chant about the new manager but luckily they respected him. Plus the puncheon chants were gold! did he actually go for a **** haha!
Well done to the players. The atmosphere could well have changed had the performance been poor or we fell behind. Think we can all move forward with confidence now and keep that cohesiveness that Adkins instilled in the club. That should be the biggest tribute to celebrate his reign. Together as one COYR!
Wish I could say I was proud to be a Saints fan at the moment, but the truth is I am not. The way Adkins has been treated is disgraceful. It's nothing to be proud of and will never defend that, ever.
I was commenting more about the way we as fans have dealt with it. We could have done a Chelsea but we haven't. The vast majority have shown their thanks for what Nigel did and accepted we are now in a new era.
I started supporting Saints in the Branfoot Out phase. As I had just started coming, I didn't join in with the red card protest, but my young son did because he was young enough to enjoy it. The difference between then and now is that we are happy where our club is and are enjoying watching the team play, so no one wants to destabilise the situation. And no one wants Cortese to sling his hook.
I think it's time to move on fella. Last night the fans showed how to behave: respect for the old manager, but right back in behind the team. It is Southampton FC, not NAFC. Loved the guy, but that is life. I was proud to be a Sainst fan in that ground last night, especially as Sky et al were really hoping for a protest.
I have always been proud to be a Saints fan. I have from time to time been very cross with the board for example over the sacking of Chris, the dreadful Branfoot era, Askhamâs greed with the reverse takeover, Lowe and his constant stream of managers and just lately the dismissal of a really great all round decent bloke and great manager. But supporting Saints is a bit like a strong marriage, you have your ups and downs and just occasionally a big row but you always kiss and make up because that is what grown up people do when you really love someone.
We all had every right to be angry about Adkins sacking, but I thought it was good to see that we didn't behave like children. On Friday, I thought we might have a threatened pitch invasion! It's happened, we don't like it, but we must support the team and see if Cortese is right again.
You are so right Fran.......the vast majority of Saints fans voiced how they felt about the dismissal. Non the less they immediately got behind the lads. True to the sports fans they are they don't like it but they have for now accepted it.........If it goes badly it could bounce right back into Cortese's face. Only time will tell..........
I have moved on. There are things that are more important than pride. I like Pochettino a lot from what I've seen. I still support the players. I'm still a Saints fan. Just not as happy or as proud about it as four days ago.
