Hey guys, as many of you know that I've not been well for last couple of months, although for personal reason I didn't go into any further details, mainly because it was embarrassing, plus you don't want to know about everyone else's illnesses, I'm sure you have enough to worry about without reading about other people's problems. So for last few months I've been unable to go for a piss properly, and let's just say some of the symptoms you don't want to know about, but given the biblical saying about camels passing through eyes of needles etc. Well the eye of the needle is about the size of what I'm having to urinate through. After many test just been told I have prostrate cancer,so given that most of you on here are around my age of mid 50s or even older, then please if you haven't already, make arrangements with your GP, to get yourself checked out. It's early stages for me, so the prognosis is reasonably positive, but having seen so many adverts about getting your prostrate checked and ignoring them, I decided that with what I've gone through this week, **** embarrassment, I don't want anyone to go through what I've been through last 4 months, so make an appointment with your GP as soon as you can. Take care all Colin
My best mate growing up was diagnosed 2 years ago and the poor lad has been through hell and back, finally got the news a few months ago that the radiography has worked and he's in remission. He had the highest level in the readings they do, his father had it too. Still a few things wrong which I won't go in to, he has now focused on awareness, telling everyone what you have done here Aski. Really hope everything works out for you mate and no need for any embarrassment, could be any of us going through it. All the best wishes in the world mate.
We're 100% with you Colin! Your fight is our fight. Don't go through this alone. If you ever want to chat, let me know pal.
That’s a tough read Aski but great you’re on the road to recovery. Us men are pretty hopeless when it comes to getting health checks. We’ll done for confiding in fairness
No need to feel embarrassed Colin and with Covid making doctors appointments near on impossible for the past few years it’s easy to be overlooked. Best wishes going forward with this mate
Fook sorry to here this mate so if you need anything or advice DM me any time as I’m now on the way back after a fooking nightmare few years. Not your cancer but similar being bowel cancer and embarrassing symptons and then years of planning trips out to make sure you know where bogs etc are. Then the treatments and operations and what you get left with, but hey I’m playing golf again. Chin up mate….
Sound advice Aski. I ought to take it. Really sorry to hear about your troubles, glad the prognosis is positive. Thoughts with you mate…any time you need an in-depth discussion on xg to take your mind off it you know where to find me
I liked despite not enjoying the message. My mate I’ve known all my life, started infant school together and our parents were friends before we were born, so 55 years of friendship, was diagnosed early and is right as rain, which I’m positive you will be. All the best fella.
Best wishes Aski, a good call to get checked out if something doesn’t feel right. Couple of my pals have just gone through this in the last 2 yrs and are starting to see a future going forward, and it seems so common now. Hope things work out for you pal.
All the best mate - nothing to be embarrassed about at all. Apparently most blokes - assuming we get into our three score and ten - will have some sort of prostate issue. Top tip - make a bloody fuss. The NHS is a public service which we pay for through tax so don't be afraid of kicking off if they're not doing what they should be. A couple of friends have had to do this and things improved PDQ once they had.
Hope all sorts itself out ASKI. I get it once a year or longer if the Doc forgets to get me in, for finger in. TBH my lads slag me over it, but in a good way. Anyway look after yourself.
Many thanks for the kind messages folks. As I said I didn't post for the sympathy vote, more from an awareness, but I do appreciate the offers of support from you all. Anyone who may wish to message me privately, as opposed to via the thread, have any knowledge/experience of incontinence pads etc as there are a bewildering amount on Amazon, that all seem to get mixed reviews. Despite having been fitted with a superpubic catheter for the last 14 weeks and having no issues, I am now suffering with a sleight case of incontinence, which the docs have assured me is fairly common, so I am now in the market for something that offers a level of protection, especially when not at home. For those in the know, level 1 or 150ml of absorption would appear to be more than sufficient. For those who have no idea what I'm talking about, then be thankful
Your own courage and fortitude will be the driving factor in the recovery Mr aski, not any sympathy from us reprobates on here ...... although of course you have it in bucketfuls MOT...
Asked my GP for a test. He stuck the finger up and said all seemed fine but would give me a PSA test anyway. Came back as 21. Specialist stuck his finger up, seems fine. Biopsy showed one isolated spot of low grade cancer. Had radiotherapy in 2016, fine since. I only went because my mate felt tired and couldn't get for his half time drink and back to his seat for the restart. Sadly he pegged out.
My dad had the radiography treatment for prostate cancer around ten years ago which was successful but painful, prompting me to get tested about six years ago, I must admit I was disappointed that there was no need to poke a finger up my bum Hope all goes well with your recovery Aski
