Thanks very much for all your concern and kind words. I only went for a PSA check in January last year. I had no symptoms although my father developed the condition at the same age as I was then, 63.

My PSA was 20. It should be <4, so quite high. A biopsy revealed a small amount of cancer, my specialist said less than one per cent of the sample, and not an aggressive variety. I was pretty laid back about it. About one person in twenty is killed by it in fairly short order, so the odds are vastly in your favour.

I had 37 shots of radiotherapy at NNUH early in the year. Since then my three monthly PSA checks have been 7, 2 and 0.7

What all this is leading to is to say, if you are over fifty, have a PSA check. If you do have prostate cancer the chances of a cure are excellent and the radiotherapy is painless, apart from in my case a seventy mile nightly drive in mid winter.

Really glad you've seen it off CT, I had an op on my enlarged prostate over 6 years ago and I'm now starting to struggle to pee again. It was very painful for quite a while afterwards so I'm weighing up the pros and cons at the moment. So far, struggling to pee is winning over another op!

Glad you hear you have battered it back mate.

My beloved Grandpa died of Prostate Cancer a few years ago. It's a horrible mother f**cker.

It's becoming more of a problem as life spans increase. Because it tends to occur after sixty in the past people used to peg out from some other cause before it could become serous. I remember as a kid our neighbours retiring at 65 and then dropping dead pretty quickly after that. At current rates it's reckoned that one man in eight will develop during his lifetime.

Unfortunately this disease is becoming more and more common in this modern world, nearly every other person 1 in 2 will come in contact if not have this illness. Right now i am also going through exactly the same and am in my 40s. Im waiting for my first set of test results since my op in the next few weeks, im positive of the outcome and its hard subject to talk about without the negativity flowing back but it does help. ATB to you both.

Sorry to hear of this CT but I'm glad you're beating it. I used to like your posts on our board. Good luck to you and theyellowfever.

Good luck yellow, I'm sure you'll be ok. If you have had the op that's a good sign, my PSA was too high for it to be an option. Thanks Telford, I love Ollie, a real character.
