So, Andy Carroll has missed more headed chances than any other player this season.

Due to Carroll being a big lad, he gets a lot of balls played towards his head. People have criticized him for missing so many headers, but I have thought for a while that his head should not be the target, it should be his left foot.

    Here's why.

I cant find his long range goal against us last season, but that's further proof, as is his goal last night.

Lets hope he can kick on now. That was a really goal last night. He'll get one on his head soon and should be okay from then. He'll get enough chances with Gerrard and Bellamy firing them in.

All 6 Goals have been when he hasn't had time to think about it.

His finishing has never been in doubt. He has a great left foot. Problem is he never gets in a position to be able to use it because his dribbling and first touch are so piss poor! Hope that aspect to his game improves otherwise we'll have to rely on one-hit-wonders for his goals or just hoofball to his head!

True...so does this mean he should just twat the ball as soon as he gets it? If he hits them like that every time it could be an option <laugh>

True. <ok> I remember vs Wolves he could have scored at the end but was trying to hard to get it on his left and couldn't get a shot off in the end.

I also notice that most off his off target headers and shots are usually narrowly wide, it's not like he's awfully inaccurate.

My biggest gripe with him is his positioning and off the ball movement, his first touch could be a little better and he needs to work on his work ethic. When he gave up with the ball vs Blackburn when the cross went over to Downing behind him, he should have been anticipating the next move. Instead he had his back to the ball. <grr>

I also find the criticism for Carroll's missed headers a bit much. A lot of the time Carroll has to leap for the ball. When some one of Carroll's size has to jump for the ball they have to head the ball down quite a bit.
