As someone who shares the same first name as AN and also hailing from 'North of the border' - the correct pronunciation of his first name is 'Alex' as in sex and not 'Alec' as in Ecuador (and the version Michael Bailey always uses on his 'Mustard' reports!!!! - AAARRGH!!!)

I was always led to believe that the Jocks pronounced 'Alex' as 'Alec' although I stand to be corrected <ok>

I know it;s a few years since I left Scotland, but there were definitely 2 spellings and I think the 'Alec' version is mostly dying out.
Of course 'Sandy' Lyle is actually 'Alexander' Lyle!!!! <ok>

A couple of my pals, who were born in Scotland insist
the pronunciation is ALEC and not ALEX.
Alex they insist is for females

    Apparently Fergie preferred ALEC. .

I wonder if that is more common in the lowlands of Scotland. I hail from the highlands and my siblings (5) all call me ALEX and I am definitely male!!!!
