    Hello all

I've been a constant casual browser and thought it was time to join in.

Over the last 7 years, the average points needed to be champions is 93. This total also beats the second promotion place total every year. So for me, this is the first aim.

At the moment we are averaging roughly 2.294 points per game.

To get promoted now, we need to average 1.793 :)

But, if we keep at 2.294 points per game, we will be promoted when we beat Portsmouth.

    The numbers never lie :)

Brilliant first post, just imagine if that were to happen and we maintain this average.

    Dreaming :-D

Once your promotion becomes inevitable I'll probably wish you to gain promotion the game before the Pompey match - provided of course that your players all turn up for our match with a stinking hangover <laugh>

Dev, as a non SFC supporter, what do you honestly think the outcome will be for Saints this season?

(i think) Reading hold the best finishing points in a season for the Championship of 106
so 2.294 x 46(games) =105.524, 105 would be a nice total for the record books,
    107 would be better<party>

It's hard not to bet against them. In the past 7 years (since the 2nd tier has been named 'The Championship') the side top after 17 games has finished in the top two on four occasions and in a play-off spot in two of the other three seasons.

It's only recently, having experienced this season to date, that I've started to truely appreciate just how good that record of Reading's is. The fact that we're not on course to beat it is just mind-blowing.

It would be nice to beat both Reading's record and the 100 goals barrier, Reading only scored 99!

Dev just mentioned the dreaded play-offs. At beginning of season P/Os would have been a desirable target..now they just bring me out in a cold sweat. Autos, please.

The strike force for Reading that season was arguably more impressive than ours is now. Doyle, Kitson and Lita; all young, hungry and talented strikers at the time.
That coupled with gunarsson and ingimarsson playing out of their skins that season. and even steve sidwell earning a transfer to chelsea!!
I would be extremely suprised if we get anywhere near that total, I wouldn't complain though!!

Great thread, saintsmk, by the way, and welcome.

I know we all want to go up as champions, but to come second we need to get one more point than 3rd place (leave GD out of it for the moment). In the last 10 seasons this would have been achieved by getting, at the highest, 87 points, and at the least, 76 points, with an average of 82.

So the worst case scenario for automatic promotion is (probably) that we need to get another 48 points from 29 games, or 1.66 points per game. You won't need me to tell you that we are currently achieving 2.29 points per game.

Best case is another 37 points, or 1.28 points per game.

Without wanting to tempt fate, the wheels are going to have to come off the bus big time for us not to go up this season!

what do we need, something like 60 goals from the remaining games? yeah just checked, we've scored 40 goals in 17 games. an average of 2.35 goals a game. if we carry on like we are, we will do it. <ok>
