Just there was told there was nothing could be done at the moment, so I said I'll type my notice up and have it by 10 for them. Apparently there was something could be done and I'll be promoted for Monday <yafuckingdancer>

Looks like it will be Senior Technician Magic Laudrup 11 <ok>

I'm in the same boat, should really be Senior Technician by now but the ****s are dragging their heels on promotion. My PDR has been delayed so it can co-incide with my CIWEM meeting (chartership). Pay reviews are being done in January and they usually do promotions then. If I dont get it I'll be looking to move in the summer when things are set to be really picking up everywhere.

Got plenty contacts in rival companies that would happily find me work and I'm not only already doing the job of a Senior Technician I'm also managing 2 jobs, doing work for others (including delivering a job that a few others made a royal arse of) and training this muppet thats been sent over from Denmark on secondment.

If they dont promote me after all that then all the extra hours and work I do will go right out the window while I spend my time whoring myself to other companies <ok>

I know that Mick, but in the last year I've been volunteering at hospital and doing a chemistry course so I can quit in the summer and study medicine <ok> This was all aiming for a bit more money, and also now instead of just being a ****, I can be a **** with a small shred of official power <laugh>

Frank, I'm the exact same. Been told I was getting promoted then nothing happens for the past year and a half. I was in charge of all drawing output in this department, workloads for the other technicians (until 1 was made redundant last year) etc. Last night I was sent drawings at half 4 when I was meant to finish, from a 'senior' tech in Edinburgh for the Forth Road Bridge. Drawings are being issued today and it was plans and sections. The **** had rotated everything in model space with no reference point. He had turned the OS grid off, so when I put it on it was in the right place but everything else was miles off. I was left to fix 20 drawings like this, and draw up each individual section <grr>

For those of you that don't have a clue what I said, the **** had ****ed up big time on a job thats worth tens of millions to us <ok>

Well, I've got 25 guys coming in to see me today to be told that there will be pay-offs, and 14 of them will be getting pumped by next week.

    Tough times indeed....

I've got some pain in the arse wanting me to do some location drawings for him in MapInfo. The data he forwarded to me was a load of ****e, files that are only compatible with other GIS systems and all the crucial data has been plotted to the wrong projection which means when I turn the OS backgrounds on and view all layers it looks like the flooding locations are South Africa <doh>

I'm far too busy to be fannying about with it so I told him if its all British Coordinates I can do it in 5mins but until then I cant do any work for him.

Work in this industry long enough and you dont half encounter some right halfwits who've either blagged their way up or got very lucky.

    Frank,

I've found this within every walk of life, there's a company we deal with, they have this fat bastard of a Project Manager who is absolutely useless, I've encountered him working for 3 seperate companies, each time, he's ****ing ****e, but hes with an Agency and gets £30ph!

This **** is the fattest, scruffiest, laziest **** you'll ever see.

The last company that he got paid off from, they had to vallet his car because of the mess inside it.

The **** still walked away with an £4k pay off!!

Too true Frank, I've been here over 5 years and I can honestly say I haven't done anything even remotely like some of the senior ****s have. I was working on a set of drawings for ash lagoons at Longannet and there was about 40 drawings. Every single one of them the OS model x-ref had been copied in as single lines and scaled differently and moved. I was copying drainage and boreholes from one drawing onto the next and they were plotting miles away.

Theres one boss here that I really can't stand as well, smuggest **** I've ever come across. Tried to blame me for drawings not being done. He said I told him I could work on them Wed Thurs and Fri last week even though I was on annual leave. Luckily I had an email I sent to him saying I was off and could do it this week. He's a ****ing technical director as well. When I quit, I'm going to staple my notice to his baldy ****ing head <ok>

Thats how it used to be done pope, back when I was a nipper <ok>

I wish it still was done with crayons, would stop the ****s from making the most pedantic changes every time they check a drawing

engineers are generally too **** at drawing to keep it with in the lines of a colouring book and even if they manage that the challenge of picking colours and being slightly creative would probably cause their heads to explode.

Anyone can stand up, wear a daft wig and talk like Graham Spiers for an hour pope.

It takes some technical skill to do what we do :-D

Anyway, am off for a bit. Got some survey data back and I need to enter it into my model and go through the audit sheet so I can put my feet up this afternoon <ok>
