Transfer activity over the next three weeks will go a long way towards answering that question. As we stand, the squad we have left are a mid table outfit. The loss of Max or Snoddy or both and we will definitely be relegation fodder. Those two must stay with several quality additions if we are to challenge at the top. By quality I don't mean blackpool rejects. No offence to our new goalie, but signings like that don't inspire confidence I'm afraid. If nothing worthwhile happens, I'm afraid I'll have to sign up to the bates out brigade
Eire, not sure I agree with the statement that losing Snoddy/Max would lead to relegation. But I certainly think it would hinder our chances of auto, or indeed a top 6 finish. Be interesting to see where we are by the end of next week. We should have had a few incomers by then. Hopefully, the club will also have sorted out contract negotiations with Max & others by then as well.
Fair enough Cosmic. I tend to agree with you. I think we are a good bet for auto. But much will depend on who stays & who we get in. Assuming our crown jewells (Max, Snoddy, Becchio etc) stay AND we solve the DM problem, we have every chance of auto. If one or more of the crown jewells go & SG can't solve our DM problem, we'll be hard pushed to get top 6 this year nevermind auto. In SG I trust & still plenty of time to bring in the right players. Both. We'll win promotion by a huge margin, which will cause more digging by the likes of The Guardian and The Football League, which will lead to them finding that Bates bought the club with money gained from illegal trade in hot pants, leading to relegation to League 2.
I think we are a good bet for auto ------------------------------------- Don't know how the hell you can come out with that
its going to be 10 times harder this season id wait until before southampton game to see what the teams like before making any predictions based on current squad id say we'd finish 10th or 11th at best
Mid table unless we strengthen cant see us anywhere near autos or even play offs with Leicester Ipswich and a few others making quality additions, west ham Southampton also in the mix as well. It’s going to be harder, and we need some quality ourselves to keep up let alone better our achievements last season.
Aleader whose only interest lies in what he can screw out of the fans ,false promises that are straight from a spin doctor of a politician how can anyone trust this dictator so how can we possibly get first rate players when they know full well he is a bullshitter .Unless we have a change of leader which I can,t see then mid table at best
In fairness, even with a starting XI of: Becchio McCormack - Nunez - Sam Clayton - Howson White - Kisnorbo - O'Brien - Connolly Rachubka I still don't think we'd come any worse than 14th or 15th, certainly not relegation places. I think the signings will strengthen us from last year's squad though, I guess that's just blind faith but at this stage when we know bugger all, I'd rather hope for the best and be disappointed. God knows I've got used to it.
In fairness I just looked at that line up and got quite depressed, looks like a fighting out of league one rather than a pushing for top six to me...
I'm more careful with my money and decided to go for Milwall at 5-1. Guaranteed return, now you've no strikers and everyone in the league will have sussed your hoof ball tactics.
–noun, plural -nies. 1. the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend. 2. Literature . a. a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated. b. (especially in contemporary writing) a manner of organizing a work so as to give full expression to contradictory or complementary impulses, attitudes, etc., especially as a means of indicating detachment from a subject, theme, or emotion.
The front four still look like a top Championship strikeforce to me, could certainly all get 10 goals or more each. Centre midfield, as Swansea showed last season, don't have to be brutes as long as they have good stamina and close the opposition down. It's all about the pressure. If Grayson could get Clayton and Howson to do that, it would work out fine. And both of those players have good fitness and energy levels, I'm sure they'd be capable. As for the defence, yes it looks pretty weak, but I think the addition of Kisnorbo would really improve things and Connolly and White are still fairly steady fullbacks for this level, both make some good runs down the line too. I reckon that side could finish above Doncaster, Peterborough, Barnsley, Coventry, Derby, Bristol City, Crystal Palace and Watford quite easily. There's no way it'll be that weak anyway, I expect at least four first team signings will be made along with the usual hit-and-miss Grayson freebies to warm the bench. Really can't see Gradel or Snodgrass leaving either, despite the doubts nearly every other Leeds fan seems to have.
I'm sure it won't end up being that line-up too, waiting for some good signings coming in. I'd like to think that Gradel and Snoddy will be staying, they are both quite committed (or seem to be) *cue there's no loyalty in football comments* I'm looking forward to seeing Nunez get a chance this season though, looks very promising and I'm sure would contribute a few goals from midfield. As for the back four, yeah Kissa is solid and O'Brien has done a good job, I'm divided over Connolly to be honest. But we can't get away from the stats of how many goals were conceeded last season, and that really points to the need for strengthening here, above and beyond the magical DM we so badly need. I really hope Grayson proves people wrong and wins over the Grayson out crowd (a tough task I know, but let's at least give him the transfer window!)
