Apparently some people are still concerned that we are in danger of getting relegated this season. In an attempt to assuage these fears here is an update on our progress since Redknapp took charge.

We have closed the points gap on

    Wigan by 6 points
    West Ham by 4 points
    Villa by 2 points
    Newcastle by 2 points
    Reading by 1 point

We are the same distance away from
    Southampton
    Fulham
    Norwich

Only Sunderland have pulled away from us (5 points)

We have also closed the gap to 17th position from 8 points to 4.

February looks like a tricky month (but then so did January), if we can maintain these differences we should be able to make significant gains in March and April.

Tomorrow's match, on paper, looks like our best opportunity to record a victory in February. If we can pick up 3 points in the early kick off it will heap additional pressure on the other teams in the mix. I'm not keen on the term "must win match" but I'll let it pass on this one occasion.

So are we gaining on those above us quickly enough?

with the fixtures that we had in January I think Arry and the lads have done brilliant.
we still dont look very good but the lads look like they are giving all they can, and we will improve.

The improvement under Harry is indeed quite remarkable. To get 6 points from Chelsea A, Spurs H, West Ham A and Citeh H was more than I was expecting.
February is another tricky month and 3 points tomorrow really is a must imo. March and April contain many games where we can hopefully pick up points, but we really do need to start winning some games. Draws just aren't going to do it.

Harry has made us harder to beat now which is great, going forward though we are the poorest in the league, some games we have just been pinned in ie west ham who just came up.i really wasnt expecting us to be worse in our second season in the prem but he we are,i would like to see us have a bit more of a push going forward im not keen on one up front at home it just gives adel to much to do to try to win the game for us.so remy and zamora tommorow up top for me 2-1 to the r`s

Where would you play Adel in a 4-4-2 mate?

Zamora surely won't start tomorrow, not on 2 minutes of football in god knows how long.

I'd like to see Adel behind Remy in a 4-1-3-1-1. We still need Derry in front of the back 4, but with Adel just behind Remy. With Faurlin gone I'm not too fused as to the 3! However MBia needs to be slightly less kamikaze.

I think you might be right there. It's not because I have never agreed with Colin's sacking, but every time I see some of our games in the PL under him last autumn, we seemed to be passing the ball forward much better then, than we have since. I doubt we are solid enough at the back to play 4 4 2 even with Samba fully fit, but we need to start getting more players forward and into the box in whatever system we use, definetely in games like tomorrows.

It was used week in week out last season, we rarely won, but we are still here.....

It was over used then and it will be now.

Great to have Roller back and a great post. If we keep making up that ground we will be safe.

With the closure of the window and no additional strikers (Remi replaces Cisse) or other goal scorers in the mix, it's difficult to see where the wins are coming from.

Whilst 'Arry has done well to consolidate the defence, he's done it using variations of parking the bus - in other words keeping most if not all behind the ball. Great for the much needed clean(er) sheets. Not so good for developing an attacking mentality.

I think we have done a lot better under 'Arry and we'll do much better in the second (shorter) half of the season but unless three teams implode, survival is unlikely imho. The maximum points we can get from the 14 remaining games is 42. This added to the 16 we've got makes 58 points all told. Means every dropped coupla three points takes us closer to that 40 point 'safety' line and really is another huge nail in our coffin.

Whilst we've got most of the top teams out of the way, it's the games against the bottom 7 I'm most worried about. Said it before but Rangers don't usually fare too well against bottom teams - and the lot this year are regularly performing pretty well and scoring goals too. Whoah!

Sorry to say it Roller old son but them's the facts - and I for one am very worried. Hope and pray something breaks in our favour.

I take comfort from the fact that Wigan had 16 points from 24 games at this stage last season.

I don't disagree; but we never adrift at the foot of the table last season.

Cia, it was great to see you again at he Man City match. However I feel sorry for whomever sat next to you. I've never looked so hard for a defibrillator than at that Reading match we saw together.

Brixton, fancy a small wager? If I remember correctly you like a whiskey. So a whiskey against a bottle of champers in which ever pub we end up in after the Newcastle match? We are staying up.

    Sorry mate.........I'm with Brix.
We only need Remy to get injured and that's that!! We don't get bodies into the box and I can't see where the goals will come from.

We don't have the pace at cb to play 442, still need a dedicated midfielder(or 2) to sit in front. Don't really have the players for 443 so it's 451/4141 for the foreseeable!

No worries mate, but you are still applying logic to a situation involving QPR. When will you learn? ****, I hope I don't sound too much like DT!.

If Brixon doesn't accept the bet, I'll happily have it with you my old mucker.

Regardless, we are meeting up before the Sunderland match aren't we Col?

Worried here as well, we have to win tomorrow, anything else just leaves us with a greater mountain to climb.

That said I don't blame Harry if it doesn't work out. I'd say more but am fed up with the childish hating. (Btw moderators, who is the obsessive stalker/mouth breather that did all that work to get me all those thousand odd red results? Would appreciate a reply on that :) )
