A friend of mine is a programme seller and has been given a letter saying the club are trying a unique way to sell it so he is no longer needed. My feelings are it will now be electronic which will mean the end of collecting them for a memento. If it is in the form of an app or an e-book i would imagine you could buy them whenever you wish thus making rare memorabilia a thing of the past!
That is a shame , I dont normally buy programs but that will certainly take away any attraction to in the future .
Seeing as though the company who print them have a contract till the end of next season maybe we are looking to sell in the Saints shops. This way more people will venture into the store and potentially buy more than they went in for! The unique way to sell could mean some kind of vending machine similar to the way papers are brought in American streets?
If it is true it's a big shame, you would think they would give us the option to say whether we want it to happen?
His Dad sells on the foot bridge, normally about 1000 copies between 2 and 2-30 he too had the letter to say he was no longer needed.
What will they do at half time instead of the wave-the-programme competition? Also, on that note, why do people who are clearly not near the camera still jump up and down and wave madly?
Yeah, probably just selling in the megastore. Or maybe they'll do like they do at WHL and have the same people doing the HT draw, with one little desk as you come in selling programmes.
They have been relieved with immediate effect, my friends Dad has been doing it for 26 years and they didnt even get a "thankyou" in the letter! Its also too late for him to buy a season ticket now so the club have dealt with this in a poor way imo.
Gutted, the bearded guy who greets us in every time from the Chapel side will be missed if that is the case, he's been there every time I've ever been to St.Mary's. Always a nice welcome
Very sorry to hear this...been handled very badly. However, I doubt the programme will only be on line...they will just be selling it inside the ground.
I'm sorry Saint Don but really? How and why should the club give us the option, should they run a secret ballot? What happens if the vote is split? I'm not saying its right or wrong frankly don't have an opinion until at least we see the new way.
They had an online subscription version of the programme last season didn't they? I got the impression that it was fairly popular, or at least cheaper to produce.
