    From todays news:

Southampton's academy has proved the most profitable in Europe over the last three years, producing talent that has subsequently been sold for more than £90m. Swansea were the next most profitable, raising more than £30m by selling players including Joe Allen and Ben Davies.

    -

So the selling clubs have made good profit from academy players. But how much do you think our academy graduates from the last three years are worth combined? We got nothing for Suso, but could the combined worth of Sterling, Wisdom, Flanagan and Ibe rival Saints £90m? Its a lot of money but we've got some solid talent to.

Barcas academy would probably win hands down but they don't sell their best talents so the data is screwed.

Id think Messi on his own has made more profit for them in terms of trophies, shirt sales, tv money he brings into the club than the 90m saints got for the players they sold.

Saw this article yesterday jk, they only used the years to suit Southampton's recent selling culture, we've made a decent amount down the years selling on home grown players, got around £30m for McMannaman, Mikey the manc and Robbie Fowler, should have been much more only McMannaman and Owen deliberately ran their contracts down to force their moves, and theres been a few more lesser players sold on.

I think that we don't get the best money for players we sell, Martin Kelly is a recent example, before his injury he was pushing for an England place. Suso another good recent example.

Mcmananan eent for nothing, Owen 8 and fowler 12 from what I remember.

Were re typicsly pants at selling players, Torres and Suarez being the 2 really big exceptions.

Even 30m for Alonso could be seen as a bargain.

You bought Sterling & Ibe, so they don't count in this context

Yep, my bad, McMannaman negotiated himself a £14m deal with Real, but him AND Owen are a pair of ****s for preventing LFC getting a fair price from their moves by running their contracts into the ground..<grr>

  11. Mascherano was the deal that annoyed me. Bought for £18m and sold for just over £20m, should have been closer to £30m

Saints didn't buy Lallana. He chose not to take out another years school boy contract at Bournemouth and go to Saints instead at the age of 12 ffs.

Under league rules Saints had to pay Bournemouth a few grand compo. Not the same as buying a contracted player like you did with Shelvey @ 18.

So what's the difference between getting someone at 12 for a few and getting someone at 14/15 for a fee like we did with sterling/Ibe

Bale, Walcott, Oxlade Chaimberlan, even Alan Shearer. The Saints academy has been profiting for years. Saints have been a selling club for years.

Yeah, but not being a "rich" club makes them more vulnerable to lose good youth/senior players that came through the ranks.

Everton must have mad a tidy sum over the years also.
