Too many Monty's and Little General's in charge, an extended series of knee jerk reactions with no patience for the long term.

I think the new owners are playing the long game in terms of how they're getting the club to run but it does concern me that we apparently need to get promoted on this attempt or we're in trouble again financially.

I get the concern Nacho but how could we not have financial problems if we get stuck in this league, with the overheads we have, albeit massively reduced from previous years? We simply can't languish in the third division and sustain the stadium, staff, academy, playing squad etc we've got championship bills and will soon have league one money, all entirely predictable. We could have had a disaster already and haven't, to take the positives. We've got a chance to sort it, let's get behind the lads and help get us promoted, onwards and upwards! :emoticon-0100-smile

This is it. Cutting your cloth salary wise etc is ok for a normal sized club. Running a big stadium and academt, keeping top class facilities, it’s not sustainable. This season is brutal for us.

When the second relegation occurred it felt like things may go bust but the change of owner (and fantastic parting gesture by Short) kept everything hanging on. Without the parachute payments it feels like there must have been a hefty loss last season (details not released until March/April though I believe) and the owners simply have to smile and say all is well as there's no hope of getting investment in if you're raising doubts.

I'm hopeful that the finances are bearable so that promotion paired with some external additions will allow Sunderland to be competitive in the Championship when the time comes- I'm less convinced that things will be fine it promotion isn't secured this season. There's borrowed time in League One, I don't want to think what financial decisions would need to be made if the stay stretches into a 3rd or 4th year.

With my heart I want them to speculate to accumulate; with my head I know they have to strike a balance.

You are very naive I'm afraid, these owners are self fulfilling business men, they have invested nothing , will not invest anything, and are hoping to keep us afloat until this last parachute payment has been absorbed, hoping to make a few quid.
Your concerns are 100% right , if we don't go up we are fkd, thats why I doubt Ross is the man to save us, he is out of his depth to save SAFC, thats where we are at.

Very true, we literally can't afford to be stuck in this division and even the championship might not be enough so let's hope it's a successful season.

Also let's hope that some of the potential investors come through because I think Donald will need them sooner rather than later.
