After seeing his terrific performance against Reading I'd like to see him get some more game time than our subs usually get. He could play anywhere in midfield or just behind the lone striker, and the sight of him warming up would keep them all on their toes.
He will unfortunately have to wait that little bit longer as the team is generally playing well with no weak links currently.
Agree entirely FHB, he looks a real find, and someone who can add dynamism to our midfield if Stephens' languid style - which I hugely admire - isn't working. After his performance against Reading he can consider himself hugely unlucky if he doesn't make the bench tonight.
Think the reason he didn't play was down to height. Stephens and Hollands needed for defensive set pieces.
I would like to see Powell substitute Hayes for Pritchard and move Waggy into the middle. A pacey strike force of BWP and Waggy against the lumpy sheffield defence late in the game would have worked much better than the long balls we tried to the ineffective Euell.
Super, we were at home so our midfielders should be on the pitch to try to win us games, not to try and stop us losing them. Megson (who I do not rate as a manager) used his FINAL substitution in the 70th minute in an effort to change the game, we used our FIRST in the 78th minute in a like for like substitution. There was only one team going to win last nights game, at the end, and that wasn't the home side.
One sub was due to injury- the first to cover his major tactical error. Pritchard for waggy maybe- for Stephens or Hollands would have cost us IMO
I'm biased as a big Stephens fan- but thought he cleaned up loads of loose balls, calm in possession and got stuck in. Not his usual flair self, with fantastic passing, but overall o thought he contributed.
I, too, am a fan of Stephens, SuperC. His contribution at Notts County was immense and he shone out from a congested and very physical midfield battle. Since then, he seems to have lost his edge and the ability to express himself. But he is a good player, and will come good.
He did, but not enough going forward. Pritchard would have been the fighter we needed in midfield last night.
Funny thing is- Stephens did fight. His tackling, interceptions etc were what he contributed to last night. Countless times I saw him pacing over to the right to help out Waggy and Solly who were being wasteful in possession.
Agree with Ponders, there were some decent tackles from Stephens but his passing and presence weren't there last night. Think Pritchard deserves a shot, at least 30 minutes against Exeter pretty much whatever position we're in in the game. I'd like to give the majority of the team the opportunity to make amends for the 2nd half, though.
