really pleased for him. seems like a lovely bloke, works hard, no ego... just the sort of player I love to see at our club.
good luck to him, hopefully he can set the championship alight.

Happy for him as I really thought that recent interview with him was brilliant. He does have his work cut out though as he has traits to his game which will leave him wanting in The Championship (sorry Tewkes!!)

Which traits would that be, SuperC?

I think his over enthusiasm put a lot of pressure on his midfield partners. I noticed at different times that Stephens and Hollands were being over run as he had come far too wide or pushed too high up as he was following the ball.

He also needs to calm down in possession. It's not a major criticism, but this added with limited league experience does raise questions in my head. I know he's popular so people may disagree, but its how I saw it last season <ok>

I've said it before and I'll say it again FHB, that his performance at Hillsborough was one of the finest I've ever seen in a Charlton shirt - the only surprise being that he walked off the pitch at the end rather than being carried off. He was kicked from pillar to post in that game and picked himself up every time and carried on.

Many of us said that we wanted players in the side who would be proud to wear the shirt and would run through walls for this club, and IMO that performance just about epitomised that ethos.

He reminds me of Robbo in that respect, another player who epitomised that ethos. Sometimes you need someone like that in the team just to give the rest a kick up the backside. The Hartlepool game is a good example.

Absolutely agree with you Tewks, he impressed the hell out of me in the second half of the season. Super, I think there is a fine line between over enthusiasm and comitment and BP is the right side of that line in the latter half of the season. He was certainly a player that grew with the squad.

OK, now JJ signs for another two years - ringing endorsement from CP and an interesting move for the club to offer a two year deal to a player that some people thought wouldn't figure prominently next season because of injury concerns.

There's certainly some deep thinking going on at Charlton Athletic these days...

I wrote that he won't be in CP's "core" plans. In other words, when CP visualizes the XI he would like to rely on throughout the season it won't include JJ. But when he is fit he will get lots of games covering the LM and CM position. Maybe even the LB position if Evina leaves.

Wouldn't argue, but a strange context to say so. Re-signing the captain of a successful side who is only 29 is hardly out of left field. Anyway, if spending money is the same as deep thinking my first wife was Einstein.
