According to The Sun (I know I know) bigwigs from the premier leagues "big five" clubs have had a secret meeting with billionaire mogul Stephen Ross to discuss a deal to break away from the Premier league and form a new European super league ( sorry I can't do links on me phone).

Time for fans to unite and boycott games en masse if you ask me.

    #Greedy ****s.

I don't think fans would want to see a European league if it was instead of the PL. There's be less demand and so there'd be less TV money offered. I can't see this happening.

    Never say never with football.
Overseas tv companies would pile in with Man U and their cronies involved

The money would come from whoever filmed/broadcast it.

It'd be a case of 'Sod the fans' - they could always watch it on TV....

But only if they subscribed. Would people pay more to see a European league than are currently subscribing to see PL, Bundesliga, La Liga, etc?If not it'd fail.

It might be quite nice to see all the rich clubs **** off into a European League leaving the rest of us to get back to a normal, division 1-4 setup, sensible ticket prices, Saturday afternoon 3-o-clock kickoffs, FA cup replays at sensible times, etc. How does that sound?

I've no objection to the best teams in each league playing each other each season, you could even give the winners a cup or something.

But a permanent league? Surely it would be a closed league - otherwise how would promotion/relegation back to national leagues work?

The trouble is all these clubs are run by owners who know nothing about football and its traditions.
Theyre greedy money obsessed owners that apply their business plan to run the club.
Has long as it generates cash and infates their egos and sense of importance every one else can go whistle.
Let em **** off if they want.

    It would efectively be that.
I kind of think that this maybe another play for the almighty top few to eek more cash out of whats already there.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that Barca and Real are the main Protaganists.

If the "Big 5" left and then it didnt work due to not attracting enough TV money and they came crawling back it would be funny if they have to start at the bottom tier of the leagues

    Not that it would happen

A European Super League might sound attractive initially but if it's a closed league then there'll be dozens of meaningless games. It won't work.

No, I think the top clubs getting together recently has all been about playing FEWER games in the football calendar by overhauling the Champions and Europa Leagues from 2020 onwards, which I think is the earliest changes can be made.

Does anyone know the level of interest that the European Cup holds outside of Europe??
I know that NBC payed £250 million for Premier league rights in USA.
My brother lives in Aussie and he saysctheres a lot of interest in the Prem but doesnt see a lot in the European comp

I think there should be less games throughout our league system but i suppose a fair few clubs need the 23 home games for revenue

I need at least 23 home games and the rest, preferably spaced out evenly, we seem to have no end of mid season breaks these days. It was good when we had football every week at Boothferry Park, alternating between 1st team and reserves, you got your monies worth out of your pass as well.
