    Match Preview;
    Our Easter weekend begins on Friday with a long trip up north to face Preston North End. They currently sit one place and one point behind us, so 16th with 49. Their top scorer is Emil Riis Jakobsen with 10 goals, and their squad contains a good balance of experience in the likes of Will Keane, Ched Evans and Robbie Brady alongside the majority of the squad who are in their mid-twenties. Paul Heckingbottom was appointed their manager after just one game of the season, with former manager Ryan Lowe leaving to take a break, which he did until taking over at Wigan in March.

    As for us, after draws with Bristol City and Cardiff with a win against Oxford between those two games, it is nice to be able to say we are unbeaten in three, and seemingly clear of relegation worries. I know Marti has said he'd like to finish with more points than last year, so we need another 7 points from our last four games which is surely doable. Would help, in my opinion, if we started with some strikers, and given the pressure is off, I'd like to see some youngsters given a significant amount of game time to see what they can do. Discuss.

    Team news and manager comments;

    Cifuentes confirmed Ilias Chair is closing in on a return to action while a late decision will be made on Kenneth Paal

    “We have good news on Ilias,” he said.

    “This week he has been training with the group at a high level, showing big energy, and he's getting closer and closer.

    “We're going to do some tests with Ken Paal and take a decision together with him because we know that it's not only about the game against Preston, but as well three days after we play against Swansea.”

    ...COME ON YOU SUPER HOOPSA!!!

    Can’t remember where I saw it but recently caught an interview with a ref, or ex ref, on time wasting. He praised the new (next season) rule on 8 seconds for the keeper to release the ball or a corner given to the opposition, and wanted the ‘reverse award’ idea used elsewhere. Explained how a player can waste at least 3 minutes for a throw in if willing to be booked, and reckoned if he could simply award the throw to the other team at the first sign of ****housery it would help a lot - likewise dicking around at goal kicks - corner for the other team, and reversing free kicks if too much time is taken. Didn’t discuss injuries, which I suppose are trickier if someone turns out to be genuinely hurt.

    Sounds good to me.

    Cheers Dave.

    Travelling fans will be supplemented by the Qatar/Chesterfield massive, aka WBA3QPR2 and his son. I reckon we will be quite relaxed now, which either means a good performance or a can’t be arsed disgrace.

    Refs often waste time themselves delaying corners until they've reprimanded/separated the wrestling players. Just let the kick be taken and a give a penalty/free kick as appropriate when they continue to wrestle.

    Yep thanks to SB73's benevolence, myself and the lad will be at Deepdale.

    Many years since I've experienced the delights of Preston, I'm hoping for a decent pie and a pint

    This new rule will change things for about three weeks and things will go back to how they were. The existing rules are fine if referees have the bollocks to enforce them so a new rule won’t make much difference.

    Mark Clattenburg said it.
    I always found him an annoying ref, looking to be centre of attention, but since retiring has given some interesting interviews.

    Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg has suggested two rule changes to combat time-wasting in football. Speaking on The Overlap with Paul Scholes and Jamie Carragher, he proposed reversing throw-ins and corners if players take too long.

    “The referee should have the power, instead of giving a yellow card for a player who’s taking too long at a throw-in, to reverse the decision,” Clattenburg explained.

    He also suggested a similar approach for corner kicks: “Players now are just trotting over for a corner, and the referee’s scared to give a yellow card for time-wasting. If you warn them, ‘Take the corner now or I’m going to reverse it and give a goal kick,’ they’ll get the ball in quicker.”

    Clattenburg, who officiated 291 Premier League games, also suggested a stricter approach for goalkeepers. “If the goalkeeper is taking too long at a goal kick, then you just give a corner. You’re not saying you’re going to use it, but players will know you’ve got the power to do it.”

    If you want alcohol before game best go into City Centre
    Moor Park Sports and Social club takes visiting fans although not sure whether have to arrange it before hand, can't give you ant recommendations as live 20 mies away haven't been into the City Centre for years.

    A long way to go for a drink considering I’m not going to the game. Will pass. I was in the city centre recently and would say it’s best avoided.

    The battle for 15th will be fierce.

    Once you take the car away from the city centre it dies, apparently they are messing around with the road lay out as well, in truth best avoided, as for the game, will finalise my match thread later in the week, the best thing about the game at the end of it, we have only 270 minutes left in the season
    The joy

    Yeah it’s felt like a particularly long one. I’m confident we’ll meet again in the lower-mid table for years to come in equally forgettable and irrelevant football matches.

    Not a bank holiday here, so I'll be working, but conveniently got a gap in meetings between 4pm (kick-off time) and 6pm.

    Is North End a part of Preston? Are/were there any other clubs in the city?

    Preston North End is called "North End" because the club's original cricket team was based in the northern end of Preston. When they moved to Moor Park, a new cricket ground in the northern part of the town, they adopted the name "North End" to reflect their new location.
