About seven years ago we played City in a cup tie we won easily 2-0 it led to the sacking of the then City manager Neil Adams was then potted after the match to pave the way for Alex Neil to take the Canaries on an end of season ride via the play offs into the top Division.
Neil was eventually following a poor run of form in the Championship. He was eventually replace by Daniel Farke who then took them up, then down and baring a miracle will be taking them up again this season.
In the meanwhile Alex ended up with us for the next four years until a week last Sundau when sadly following some awful performances this seasonw as eventually given the order of the DCM(Don't come Monday|)
So the new era begins with a gimme against City then two easy games against Swansea and Brentford.

The return game at Carrow Road saw us take a point in a 2 all draw only being denied by a late Canaries goal, considering the home form of Norwich that seems to be an impressive point.
City have had a cracking season beating most sides with some outstanding performances, the front four who played against the plastics in the last match Buendia, Cantwell, Dowell and Pukki are more than useful, Gibson ruled out for the rest of the season will be a loss but this will take some winning from us.

What will Frankie Mc do change of formation, tactics we shall see on Friday, but this is a toughie but also a new start for us

    Frank says

We've all got different strengths and areas we'd like to improve on. We are a lot different in a lot of ways of course; I've just got to be true to myself - I've got a fantastic opportunity to try and ultimately make sure that we are in the Championship next season. That's it, that's our task and I'm looking forward to it.

Things have moved on and changes. We need to deal with the here and now. At the moment we are in a position where we would hope it would be better but the only people who can make it better are us as a coaching team and the players. We are sitting 16th in the table and we want to improve on that and get higher up. We don't want to put them under any undue pressure.

It's the biggest thing isn't it when you are coming to work? We're all in control of everything we can do. All we can do is help them feel they are the best they can be and when you've got them in that frame of mind, hopefully you get the best out of them.

They're at the top of the league on merit - very fluent when they have got the ball, dangerous players and defensively they do extremely well. They are a formidable unit but generally we've done okay in the past against those teams. We know it's going to be tough but they all are.

We've got a great camararderie and mutual trust - we are going to need that in the last eight games.

We are looking in good shape - the only ones at the moment are the long-term ones in Patrick Bauer and Declan Rudd. Alan Browne misses the next two but we will get Jayson Molumby back. Louis Moult has been training which is great for Louis and the group of lads. We are a wee bit away from him being selected but heading in the right direction.

There is a good structure and foundation here. I have taken a lot that Alex did on board - we all need to work together and win as many games as we can for Preston. It's been really enjoyable so far.

All we can do is put our faith and trust in them to go and deliver what is expected of them. We have to support them as best as we can. There has not a lot changed in the way we want them to go and do things. It will hopefully be done at the right intensity.

We are itching to get to the game really. We just want to get out on the pitch - the mood in the camp is good at the moment. They are desperate to try and win the games, you earn it in the matches. When you have most of the players here it is great - there is no better feeling then the players all training together. We've got an idea of what we want to do on Friday - we want to make it as enjoyable for them so they can be as creative as they can.

The first meeting of the clubs at Deepdale 30/3/1963 North End winning 2-0, we have played a few cup matches over the passing years the last league visit North End won an excellent game 3-1 everything hinged on a penalty which City missed. They last won at Deepdale 17/4/2017 3-1.

We’re back at Deepdale this Friday, as a new era begins for Preston North End, with interim head coach Frankie McAvoy at the helm as the Lilywhites host runaway league leaders Norwich City – his former employers.

The international break has given him the chance to work with the players over an extended period before his first game in charge, with just the suspended club captain, Alan Browne and Jayson Molumby away with Ireland during this period.

The visitors have been in fine form of late, going into the game 11 games unbeaten and look almost certainties to return straight to the Premier League, a feat Daniel Farke will have achieved twice in three seasons in they complete the job.

But the home side will be looking to cause a little bump in the road on that journey by collecting the three points as they start an Easter programme which sees games against three of the top four as opponents.
League Head To Head: PNE wins – 16; Draws – 15; Norwich City - 14

    Team News
Louis Moult has returned to full training after 18 months out, although he will need to be eased back into action, having not kicked a ball competitively since the trip to Swansea in August 2019.

Declan Rudd revealed this week that he hopes to be back outside next week, whilst Patrick Bauer is back running, as both look to be ready to start full training at the beginning of pre-season.

Alan Browne sits out the second of his three game ban, following his controversial red card at Middlesbrough, whilst Jayson Molumby will return from international with Ireland on Thursday, just 24 hours ahead of the game.

Norwich City defender Ben Gibson will miss the remainder of the season with an ankle ligament injury. Gibson, on loan from Premier League side Burnley, was forced off in the 83rd minute of the Canaries' 1-1 draw against Blackburn last Saturday and the club have said that he will now undergo surgery before beginning a period of rehabilitation.

Daniel Farke had 14 players, at different levels, away on international duty this week, but he will hope Lukas Rupp, who missed the visit of Blackburn Rovers because of a hamstring injury, may have improved.

Furthermore, Adam Idah, who underwent successful hernia surgery the Friday before the break, will hope to have moved closer to a return over the two week gap, although this match is expected to be too soon for the Irish international forward.

    Match Officials
Good Friday’s game sees Dean Whitestone appointed as the match official, his fourth PNE game this season – but his first at Deepdale - having taken charge of the 4-2 away win at Brentford back in October, December’s trip to Barnsley and January’s clash with Bristol City.

He also refereed four North End games in 2019/20, including the home game with QPR and our home win over Charlton Athletic in late January.

The Northamptonshire official has refereed PNE games on 16 previous occasions, the first of which was at Bramall Lane back in October 2008.

He has officiated 27 games so far this campaign, issuing 53 cautions and three red cards – including Norwich City’s 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park back in December.

Two of the stand-out PNE games he has been in charge of, were a previous 3-0 victory at Barnsley in August 2009, and a 3-1 triumph on the road at Doncaster in October 2012.

The rest of Friday’s official will be made up of assistant referees Nik Barnard and Matthew McGrath, whilst the fourth official will be Samuel Barrott.

Be interesting to see how this one plays out especially with Evans' remarks re some not putting in the effort in recent weeks, still need two wins for the magical 50 points, were better to start then against the Premiership bound

All on our attack I think as we be fragile at the back. A case of scoring more than you I think (hope) I'm expecting a goal fest, which probably means it will be a nil nil!

Brad Potts scored a deflected 95th-minute equaliser to spark wild celebrations as Preston North End denied runaway Championship leaders Norwich City a 10th win in 11 games.

Emi Buendia's stunning long-range effort looked to be enough to overcome manager-less Preston and earn the Canaries a win that would have set a new club record of 14 away league victories in a season.

The normally reliable Teemu Pukki had missed three great chances to be sure, unluckily seeing a fierce strike come back off the bar and also missing two wonderful one-on-one chances.

Preston took advantage of the away side's profligacy and avoided a fourth successive loss when Potts cut in from the left and found the corner of the net with a well-struck effort from the edge of the box.
The Canaries, who have drawn successive games after a nine-game winning run, should have been out of sight well before the leveller despite a strong start by the hosts.

Preston, in their first game under interim boss Frankie McAvoy since sacking Alex Neil, impressed early on against the champions elect but lacked a cutting edge to match their passion and impressive approach play.

Moments before falling behind, Scott Sinclair wasted a great opportunity when he failed to get a decent connection on a close-strike strike and then had his follow-up attempt blocked.

Bunedia's classy finish then settled Norwich and Daniel Farke's side showed the quality and confidence that makes an instant return to the Premier League almost certain despite this minor setback.

Pukki should have made it 2-0 by the interval but dragged an effort wide and did likewise in the second half, while he also crashed an effort off the underside of the bar from a tight angle after being played in by Buendia.

Potts made Pukki pay, however, and Norwich now need a maximum of 13, rather than 11 points, from seven games to be certain of promotion.

Preston interim head coach Frankie McAvoy told BBC Radio Lancashire: "What we were looking for was a positive result and that was the biggest thing for us.

"I just thought the effort, the work-rate, the hunger and desire they showed up to the 95th minute was excellent and that's what you're looking for as a coach.

"We put Pottsy up top. He's a big lad, he can win a flick-on, or get in the box and take something in, which we actually did.

"He managed to shake off a defender and turn. Fortunately enough for us it took a deflection and ended up in the back of the net."

Norwich head coach Daniel Farke told BBC Radio Norfolk: "Once Tim Krul put the ball up front, the four minutes were over and everyone expected the final whistle. At this moment perhaps we were already a bit too sure.

"We could have had more pressure on the ball and shouldn't have allowed them to play it long. Their only strike on goal was, if we're honest, not even a proper chance.

"When you're so close to winning the game and concede such a sucker punch in the last moment, of course we are really disappointed.

"But football can be the cruellest, most unfair sport in the world and sometimes out of nothing you can concede. Once the dust has settled, it's been possible to stay unbeaten and also edge one point closer."

The difference in class was evident. Thank goodness Pukki had an off day!
