    LAST TIME OUT

    FORM GUIDE

PNE 6 BRENTFORD 11 (Drawn last four)

Getting closer to the end this plus two others at home with a tour of the Midlands for the three away games, the last two games have given us to impetus that we sadly lacked towards the end of Alex's reign just wonder whether the players were giving their all but in time we may find out. A big welcome to Brentford who seem to be stuttering towards the end of the regular season four draws on the bounce have not help and are now having to play catch up falling 9 points behind Watford.
In this bizarre season the result at Brentford's ground probably sums up our season 2 down at half time win 4-2. Decent side these lot good individuals Toney scoring tons of goals not doubt will be transferred for millions this summer it's the way they work. Canos is a danger but they have quality all over the pitch.

    FRANKIE SAYS

Alan Browne will be back obviously. Hopefully we will have one or two back in. We will have a look at DJ, Sean and Anthony Gordon this morning.

Greg will probably be another week or two, it's not too bad just a recurring problem. We want to be on the safe side with him.

You've got to give credit to the guys that have been on the pitch - they have done it. Alan will come in and be part of the squad, and we will look at the best way to get a result. He will be ready and available for selection. Confidence is a big thing in football - we've got to keep our feet on the ground, it's only a start. Those games are finished.

To be fair, it has always been there. Sometimes it gets a wee bit fragile when things and results don't go their way. We needed to find that energy and enthusiasm, and full credit to them they have done. I couldn't have asked any more of them.

The best way to go about it I thought was to go two up top and get the structure behind it. We wanted to create more chances and score more goals. After Norwich I thought we needed to look a bit more solid and so we changed it for Swansea and they did great.

It was excellent last time, but that game is in the past now. A lot of the personnel we had are not here. We've got to try and emulate that as best as we can and try to win the game. I'm hoping for the same commitment, enthusiasm and calmness on the ball. I thought we got the off-the-ball stuff better against Swansea.

The task is still to stay in the Championship, that's still what we want to do. But as I said at the start, we had eight games and that's two gone now. The next one is Brentford and we will take it one game at a time - that's exactly the way we are approaching it. We will do the same things, try to get better at what we are doing well and improve the bits we haven't done as well.

After four points from two tough Easter weekend games, the Lilywhites host another of the promotion hopefuls when Thomas Frank’s Brentford arrive in PR1 on Saturday.

The Bees have stumbled of late, with just one win in their last six games and look likely to have to settle for the Play-Offs for the second season in a row, with both Norwich and Watford seemingly relentless in their chase for the top two.

The season has been another impressive one for the West London club, with goals galore from their big money replacement for Messrs Benrhama and Watkins, in Ivan Toney – who already has an astonishing 28 to his name this season.

For PNE, they head into the game in a positive frame of mind with two 90-plus minute goals in interim head coach Frankie McAvoy’s first games in charge, earning them a point against the Canaries and the late win at Swansea.

    Head To Head: PNE wins – 22; Draws – 13; Brentford - 24

    Team News
Interim head coach Frankie McAvoy was down to the bare bones for the Easter Monday trip to Swansea City.

Anthony Gordon, Daniel Johnson, Sean Maguire and Joe Rafferty joined Greg Cunningham, Declan Rudd and Patrick Bauer on the sidelines.

However, there is brighter news going into the weekend, with skipper Alan Browne back after his three-match ban was completed with the win in South Wales.

For Thomas Frank, only Henrik Dalsgaard is a doubt, having missed the last few games on the right-side of the Bees backline.

    Match Officials
It’s Tony Harrington’s fifth game in charge of PNE this season on Saturday and his fourth trip to Deepdale, the last being the clash with Watford in February.

Despite the quintet of games in 2020/21, he took charge of just one game last season, the home game with Gary Rowett’s Millwall at Deepdale, but in 2018/19 he took charge of three PNE games, the March trip to Reading, the 2-0 cup win at Leeds United back in August 2018 and the home game against West Bromwich Albion that autumn.

Tony has been a familiar face over recent seasons. In 2017/18 he visited Deepdale twice,
the Lilywhites’ opening day 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday in Alex Neil’s first competitive game in charge of the club, and our Bank Holiday Monday clash with Derby County.

The previous season he also took charge of another two North End games, the 1-1 draw away at Nottingham Forest and the thrilling 4-2 win over Brentford at Deepdale – so he has officiated this game before!

The match official, who is now in his tenth year on the EFL list, has also been to PR1 on a number of previous occasions in the past, including the 2014/15 penalty win against Oldham Athletic in the JPT and the club’s last two home league games against Notts County, including a 2-0 win over the Magpies at Deepdale in February 2014.

This will be the Cleveland referee’s 32 game of the season and so far he had issued 85 cautions and four red cards, including Joe Rafferty in PNE’s clash with Blackburn Rovers and it will be his third Brentford game of the season.

He will be joined by assistants Shaun Hudson and Matthew Jones, whilst the fourth official is experienced Championship referee Darren Bond.

Brentford ended a run of four straight draws to regain third spot in the Championship as they comfortably beat Preston North End.

Bryan Mbeumo sent the Bees ahead inside the opening 10 minutes after Mads Roerslev's neat through ball.

Marcus Forss doubled the lead with a cool close-range finish from Roerslev's clever delivery from inside the box.

Ivan Toney headed in Tariqe Fosu's floated cross for Brentford's third before Sergi Canos' tap-in and Emiliano Marcondes's near-post finish sealed it.

Swansea had leapfrogged Brentford into third position in the Championship after they beat Millwall in Saturday's early fixture, but the Bees' win lifted them back above the Swans.

Thomas Frank's side had drawn four games in a row prior to the trip to Lancashire, but bolstered their position in the play-off spots and are now seven points clear of seventh-placed Reading.

Defeat for Preston was their 11th at home so far this season, but they remain in 16th position with five games remaining.

The players wore black armbands and stood for a two-minute silence before the game for Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who died at the age of 99 on Friday.

'A harsh lesson' for Preston - reaction
Preston North End interim head coach Frankie McAvoy:

"Today is a harsh lesson for us all and hopefully we can learn from it, that's the biggest thing.

"What we've got to do is make sure we knuckle down and get ready for the games coming up and focus on Stoke now.

"Both individually and collectively as a group, we didn't defend anywhere near as well as we did last week."

Brentford manager Thomas Frank told BBC Radio London:

"We never get too high or too low depending on the results and we always give ourselves 24 hours to come back, to calibrate normal.

"But of course this was a good win and a big win for us, scoring five goals when we've struggled to do that lately.

"It's good to see that we are back to our offensive normal."

I think McAvoy lost the plot in this game.
