Sunderland travel to Lancashire to face Preston in the Carabao Cup. Last time out Sunderland beat Cardiff and Preston lost to Sheffield United. Sunderland got off to a fine start to the new season with a 2-0 away win at Cardiff with goals from Luke O’Nien and Jack Clarke. Regis le Bris could rest his first team and use this game to give minutes to the squad members that didn’t feature against the Bluebirds. Preston lost their opening game 2-0 against an impressive Sheffield United side but both goals were avoidable, the first coming from a deflected shot and the second, a howler from the keeper throwing the ball straight to Gustavo Hamer. Ryan Lowe under pressure from the home fans after a dismal finish to last season and an opening game defeat has left the club today (Monday). Mike Marsh – accompanied by Peter Murphy and Ched Evans – will be in charge of the team. Leeds loanee and ex Sunderland youth player Sam Greenwood could feature. Layton Stewart could be back in contention after a muscle injury. Regis le Bris: “The first thing is the victory because this is our first round [game] of the season it's never easy to play away and to win so this is our first idea at the moment I want to congratulate the fans because we needed an extra energy today to keep this result and because it wasn't an easy game.” Ryan Lowe: (has now left) “I thought we started well. I thought there were some good moments in the game and we were well in the game before it ricochets and gets a deflection and bounces in. “Obviously we’re disappointed by that and in the build-up to it we gave the ball away with a stray pass and we get caught. Before that, I thought we were well in the game. “Second half, we came out of the blocks really fast. I thought we did well with that and then to concede a goal the way we did [was disappointing]. Given that we play the league leaders at the weekend, I’d rest all of the first team players but maybe RLB has other ideas. I’m going for a 1-0 away win Live Stream: Note that Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup fixtures will not be available through SAFC LIVE. It is live on Sky Sports+ Ha’way the Lads
I'm not sure what i'd do with the lineup here if I was RLB. We have no real right back replacement for Hume if Pembele isn't in the thinking and we don't have a natural left back cover for Cirkin either while Alese is playing CB. I'd like to see Mayenda start again just to get used to the system and the physicality of Championship defenders, but understand completely why Rusyn will probably start. I think i'd go with; Moore O'Nien Johnson Triantis Hjelde Rigg Ekwah Aouchiche Ba Mayenda Mundle My thought process behind O'Nien is that I think Hume needs the rest more and if what people have said about O'Nien being the right back cover is true then he needs to play the position again. 4 CBs across the defence isn't exactly attacking mind but needs must. 1-1, win on pens.
Nice one mate, you've given us all a reason to live again Can't wait for this, every player will be wanting to impress. Not only that, I reckon that's a side that could've come away with a result yesterday ... ... that front four has so much energy I'll be amazed if we don't score at least a couple. Two or three signings plus Ballard, Huggins, Seelt, etc and we really are building a squad.
Obviously hope we win, but won’t be fussed if we get turned over. Genuinely hope we make 11 changes and get some vital minutes in the legs of those on the fringes.
Good point, my thinking was giving Cirkin & Alese a rest as they need wrapping in cotton wool He might play Neil, O'Nien or Browne to help the younger players out on the pitch.
It's an interesting one because on one hand the first team need minutes in the new system but so do the fringe players and we don't need any first teamers picking up injures in a cup game
The likes of Clarke, Neil and Roberts should be nowhere near the starting lineup for this match. I can see O9 playing for the balance with the young lads and he's also not injury prone (I'm aware I've cursed that now). Saying that RLB might go all out
Will it be the fringe players mainly or a 50/50 mix. Over to you RLB. Rooche and me fancy the short trip to Preston but have no ticket history so could anybody help us out ticket wise please. Either way just give it our best shot and look forward to the draw for the next round.HTL.
Something like this: please log in to view this image I'm under the assumption that Pembele is away because a load of you keep sayign it, otherwise he obviously starts on the right. Also, Mundle and Bennette could swap sides,
That should be OK mate, I'll let you know for sure tomorrow ... ... it's currently 'sold out' but it'll either be pay on the door or more e-tickets made available. The away end is twice what they've given us, or rather Sunderland didn't want to commit to tickets they didn't sell but would have to pay for ... you'll be in for sure.
