    Competition - Sky Bet Championship
    Venue - Deepdale
    Date - 1 November 2022
    Kick off - 19:45

Following their hard fought 1-1 away draw at Ashton Gate, next up for Russell Martin’s Swansea squad is another tricky away trip, this time to Lancashire to play Preston.

On Saturday, Bristol City started strongly and Swans’ goalkeeper Steven Benda had to produce a near miraculous save on his line to keep out Antoine Semenyo's 10th-minute shot from close range, although the striker should have given him no chance.

Benda came to the Swans' rescue again on 20 minutes, stretching out a leg to keep out a low drive from Wells.

However, Nigel Pearson's Bristol City side took a deserved 24th-minute lead when Tommy Conway latched onto a Nahki Wells pass to drill home his eighth goal of the season from 12 yards.

Conway's goal came as no surprise as Bristol's front three were causing the visitors countless problems.

The Swans launched some dangerous attacks of their own, but it was not until first-half injury time that home goalkeeper Max O'Leary had to make a save from Nathan Wood's volley.

However, the Swans levelled on 76 minutes, with Olivier Ntcham finding the bottom corner with a volley from 20 yards after a corner was cleared into his path.

As a result, the Swans dropped to 6th place.

Later that afternoon, Preston’s Jordan Storey struck a stoppage-time winner to condemn Middlesbrough to defeat in Michael Carrick's first match in charge as Boro boss.

Chuba Akpom had given Carrick a dream start with a close-range header but Emil Riis thumped home to equalise before half-time.

Both teams spurned chances before Akpom conceded a last-gasp free-kick from which Storey headed home to secure North End's second home win in nine attempts.

Boro remain out of the drop zone on goal difference while Preston are within three points of the play-off places in 10th spot.

The Swans have played Preston on 67 previous occasions, winning 27, losing 22 and drawing 18.

The most memorable match between the teams took place on 2 May 1981 when the Swans secured promotion to the top flight of English football for the first time courtesy of a 3-1 win:

In the corresponding fixture last season, it was Preston’s turn to win 3-1, despite Piroe having put the Swans 1 up:

Turning to Tuesday evening, I think that the Swans will return to South Wales with a point after a 1-1 draw <cheers>

Thanks Taff. Another long trip for the lads but I am hopeful of a 1-0 win for the Swans to maintain our good run and keep us in the top 6

Just as a matter of interest our corresponding match in midweek this time last season was Bournemouth away

Not sure about this one, I think a draw is the most likely result.

John Busby will be the man in charge when Swansea City travel to Preston North End on Tuesday evening (7.45pm kick-off).

This will be just the third time the man from Oxfordshire has taken charge of a Swans match and the second time this season. He previously blew the whistle at the Swans home defeat to Luton Town in August.

Busby spent eight seasons as an assistant referee in the EFL before joining the National List of Referees in 2016.

After impressing in the lower leagues he was added to the Select Group 2 ahead of the current campaign.

So far in 2022-23, Busby has taken charge of 12 matches handing out 47 bookings and two red cards.

On Tuesday, he will be assisted by Rob Smith and Geoff Liddle. Geoff Eltringham will be the fourth official.

Swansea City will go in search of just a fourth win at Deepdale in 41 years when they face Preston North End at Deepdale tonight (7.45pm).

The visitors will be looking to continue a very good run of form that has seen them take 16 points from the seven games since the September international break.

There are now just four games remaining of a hectic sequence of 11 fixtures in just 42 days, but three of the remaining four matches take the Swans on their travels, starting this evening. (Birmingham and Huddersfield are the other 2 away matches, with Wigan being the home game this coming Saturday)

They take on a Lilywhites side who boast the meanest defensive record in the Championship having racked up 10 clean sheets and conceded just 15 goals from 17 matches so far.

Deepdale has not proved a happy hunting ground for the Swans since John Toshack’s side secured the victory that sealed a first-ever promotion to the top-flight in 1981, but they will travel determined to keep up the form that has seen them climb into the play-off spots.

Swansea City’s Championship fixture at Reading has been chosen for live television coverage by Sky Sports, with the decision seeing the Royals clash and two other fixtures moved as a result.

The game at the Select Car Leasing Stadium had originally been scheduled for 3pm on Boxing Day, Monday December 26, but it will now take place at 5.15pm on Tuesday, December 27.

The change of date for that match means Swansea’s home festive fixtures against Watford and Burnley have also seen their details changed.

The clash with the Hornets at the Swansea.com Stadium has moved from 7.45pm on Thursday, December 29 to the same kick-off time on Friday, December 30.

The game against the Clarets in SA1 will no longer be at 3pm on Sunday, January 1, it will instead take place at 3pm on Monday, January 2.

Swansea City boss Russell Martin makes four changes to his starting line-up for this evening’s Championship meeting with Preston North End at Deepdale.

Ryan Manning, Kyle Naughton, Olivier Ntcham and Joel Piroe all come into the Swansea side, with the Dutchman available again after suspension.

Matty Sorinola, Nathan Wood, Ollie Cooper and Michael Obafemi are the players who drop to the bench after starting against Bristol City at the weekend.

Steven Benda continues in goal, with Naughton slotting in alongside Harry Darling and Ben Cabango in defence.

Manning and Joel Latibeaudiere take the wing-back slots, either side of the midfield pair of Jay Fulton and skipper Matt Grimes.

Ntcham will join Luke Cundle in providing support for Piroe in the final third.

Swansea City: Steven Benda; Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton, Harry Darling; Joel Latibeaudiere, Jay Fulton, Matt Grimes (captain), Ryan Manning; Luke Cundle, Olivier Ntcham; Joel Piroe.

Substitutes: Andy Fisher, Michael Obafemi, Jamie Paterson, Armstrong Oko-Flex, Nathan Wood, Matty Sorinola, Ollie Cooper.
