"The game on Thursday is more about getting 45 minutes in the legs, so most players will probably play just the 45.
Seems that way. Advocaat is planning to name a different XI for each half against the Quakers at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park – handing the chance for the club’s youngsters to catch his eye.
Vince, the game is on the 9th. I copied it over from my Roker Report preview which was Published on the 7th.
Costel Pantilimon and Jordi Gomez will miss Sunderland’s pre-season opener at Darlington 1883 as they continue their recovery from knee injuries. Both goalkeeper Pantilimon and midfielder Gomez are not yet taking part in full training, with the pair suffering the after-effects of injuries sustained in the final throws of last season. Gomez is going the right way, but he’s not working with us. Dick Advocaat Pantilimon jarred his knee during Sunderland’s penultimate game at Arsenal, which saw the Black Cats secure survival, and subsequently missed Romania’s games during the summer. Gomez, meanwhile, suffered a fractured knee cap during a training ground collision and missed the final three games, and unlike Pantilimon is yet to take part even in light training. And while head coach Dick Advocaat says the duo are on the mend, neither will participate in Sunderland’s first pre-season friendly against non-league Darlington at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park. Advocaat said: “Gomez is going the right way, but he’s not working with us. “He’s still working separately with the physio. “Pantilimon is doing that too, but he’s going the right way. “He can’t play games at the moment, but he’s training separately with the goalkeeping coach.” John O’Shea, Steven Fletcher, Seb Larsson and Sebastian Coates won’t be involved against the Quakers either, with the quartet due back in pre-season training on Friday. They were all given extra time off due to their international commitments during the summer, but will report back for work in time for Sunderland’s pre-season trip to North America. There have been question marks over whether Adam Johnson - who should be involved against Darlington - will travel to the USA and Canada due to his ongoing legal problems. But Advocaat refused to be drawn on whether Johnson would head across the Atlantic when asked about the £10million winger. “I will make the final decision about the squad (for America) on Friday after the game,” he replied. Advocaat is likely to name two different XI’s for each half against the Quakers.

Hi, I’m Tom from CrowdScores, a football scores app with a difference. We’re looking to improve the live score experience for fans and have created a platform where football supporters can instantly share goals, cards, subs and commentary with one another. This means that you get updates faster and more reliably than from major sports data conglomerates. Our app is also specifically designed for the low signal environment of a football ground, which makes score checking and sharing a less painful experience. Obviously this enables you to share information on games that major sports data conglomerates are not interested in. As football fans ourselves, we know that keeping up to date with pre-season games is almost impossible and we want to change that. Our platform means that no game is too small for instantaneous live score updates - it’s like having a friend at every game. We have the ability to provide live updates on youth games, reserve games and friendlies as well as offering the fastest and most accurate score updates available during the domestic season. Check out our speed and accuracy by downloading our app available on Android (http://crwd.sc/AndroidD1883) and iOS (http://crwd.sc/iOSD1883) and compare the speed to Sky, the BBC or your scores app of choice. If you’re heading to Darlington’s pre-season matches and you’d be interested in sharing the score with fans everywhere and becoming a part of the CrowdScores network then give us a shout and we’ll add it to the system. In the meantime, we will be covering the game against Sunderland tomorrow night on the app. Thanks, Tom.

I could cry with joy every time I see one of Bri's match threads. Without him this forum would descend to the depths of Albert's little empire
