Remote - the point is we shouldn't be having to talk about spending in January, we should have done it properly in the summer to avoid this scenario.

In the main, we've relied on our guys of last season coming good at Premier level. Big gamble that may well still come off, but if we need players in January then we need them now. To that extent we pissed on our chips in the summer by being too cautious with our guaranteed Premier cash.

That's my opinion anyway. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Seems we are in agreement about the inadequate constitution of the squad pre season. And what’s more if NW is talking about January signings after only a handful of games then that’s a tacit admission he got it all wrong in the summer.

And another thing can he stop playing non league teams pre season.

I imagine the powers to be thought that Ralls, Hoilett and Zahore would perform better than they have. If those three in particular had of stepped up an extra 10% perhaps this conversation would not be happening.

However, we couldn't know for sure what would happen. NW has said repeatedly he wanted a striker, but couldn't get one at a reasonable cost. The midfield seems to be getting better each week and I believe Gunnarson's return only helps. The defence hasn't been bad against teams outside the top 6 and if Morro had of hit a couple of those headers, well.

As we have said before, let's see where we are after a dozen games. The next four games could see us at around 9 or 12 points. That gives us a good base to reassess where we need to strengthen in January. I don't think we will be adrift, so the whole plan may work out well in the end.

Temple pal - take your point about those three players not stepping up affecting overall performances, but it could be argued that the very fact that we relied on them doing it is the big mistake. We deservedly came up with a group of players who effectively over-performed at Championship level to get us here, and then expected them to turn it on again on a different planet as far as football class is concerned.

Apart from the last minute loan of Arter, we have no Premier League players in the side and those we did recruit - Smithies, Cunningham, Reid and Murphy were punts on other Championship players coming off at this level. Thank God we got Camarasa who's brought some La Liga class to the squad - and he couldn't get into the Betis side.

I don't think we need another 4 games to know what we need - we know it now and can do **** all about it for another 2 months. Yes, we might well get a few points on the board this next 4 games - God help us if we don't, but we should have that "9 or 12 points" that you quote already on the board by now.

Huddersfield, Newcastle and worst of all Burnley are ****e. I suppose you can say that blowing a potfull of dosh hasn't helped Fulham who are a complete mess and we took advantage of that, but that is of their own making not ours.
