Adel Taarabt set to make £15m move to PSG Simon Johnson Simon Johnson 15 Jul 2011 Paris St Germain are close to agreeing a £15million deal with Queens Park Rangers for Adel Taarabt. Manager Neil Warnock told Standard Sport last week that he is resigned to his star midfielder leaving Loftus Road for the French club and a transfer appears to be only days away. PSG have already had a £13.5m bid turned down but are believed to have stepped up negotiations now that former AC and Inter Milan coach Leonardo has agreed to become their new sporting director. It was Leonardo who recommended Taarabt to the PSG board. QPR are keen to get as much money as possible for their prize asset because 40 per cent of his fee will go to Tottenham as part of the agreement made when they sold him to Warnock's side last summer. Taarabt, who scored 19 goals to help QPR win promotion to the Premier League last season, has been back in training with the rest of the squad for the last three days.It is unlikely the 22-year-old will be risked in the club's first pre-season friendly against Harrow Borough tonight.
I don't think that we can really argue with the club accepting £15m (£9m net of Spurs sell-on clause) for someone that hasn't proven himself in the Premiership. However, I will be seriously disappointed if the £9m or the bulk of it isn't made available to Warnock for some quality signings.
I do wonder whether Jay Boothroyd could play in Taarabt's position with possibly HH and JD Campbell as our front two. But, I guess that as Spuds are going to benefit from the sale of Taraabt then maybe we might be able to get a player or two off them...maybe one of the Kyles? If we ask nicely wonder whether they would loan us Luka Modric and Defoe and pay for their wages
Taarabt in or out, it's all good. Got used to him going missing last season - even in games he was playing in. Then he pops back up and hands us three points! Thank you very much Adel but you were never an R really were you? Always too good for our humble little club and rarely failed to let us know all about it. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you... Question remains, is Taarabt the top team player he thinks he is? Morocco certainly don't think so. Has the power to attract headlines but lacks the maturity to convince the clubs he dreams about. Needs to grow up and learn what coffee smells like (you'd think he'd know that coming from southern France!).
I take massive exception to that comment Swords. Without him we would be playing in the Championship this season. OK so he is a stroppy young boy at times, but he has given us a chance to play with the big boys. Undoubtedly, he has been badly advised by people more interested in money than anything else, but he has been the most talented player any of us have seen for many years at QPR. If this deal falls through, or he sees sense, I, for one, will be celebrating. Loftus Road will be less exhilarating without him. When you are watching us failing to break down Premier League defences, don’t you dare moan about a lack of creativity.
He will be greatly missed. We hadn't seen a player with his ability for many years at QPR. Of course he was frustrating at times but if he didn't lack consistency we would never have had the opportunity to marvel at his talent in the blue and white hoops to start with.
£15m is too good an offer to turn down . I for one would like to see him at LR next season but paying £1m for a player and selling him for £15m 12 months later is awesome business by anyones standards.
I said to my mate at the start of last season that if we went up and Tarbs wanted a move then we should shake his hand and tell him he can go wherever he wants with our blessing as he had done the job he was signed to do (get us out the division). I still stand by what I said, though I'll be desperately disappointed he wont be with us if he does leave, as he's a talent I haven't seen the likes of at LR in twenty years, and fear another 20years will lapse before we see another.
Roller, on this occasion people must take what I've said at face value. I've said it after the final whistle of the Leeds game. I even said it when he was banging in goals last season and people wanted to Lynch me. In fact, others only started saying it when he had a pop at the Club 3 weeks ago: "Taarabt won't work for us in the Premiership. Get a good price and sell." And I think if we net 9m, that's great business. As for moaning about lacking creativity, I would still be well within my rights. I would presume the manager would be given the funds to go out and sign good, creative players who could fit properly into a system rather than having it revolve around them, pass the ball occasionally and not throw a tantrum when someone boos at them.
Swords, it is not the fact that you think we are better off without him now, although I strongly disagree with you; we could argue that point until the cows come home. It is the "good riddance". To me that implies that you wished he had never come in the first place, and I firmly believe that we would still be in the Championship if that had been the case. We owe our promotion to two men Taarabt and Warnock.
Can't see what Adel sees in going from playing in the premier league to playing in the french league (a backward step) if he hopes to play for top European side why would he even be thinking about playing in france not exactly a league sprinkled with high powered clubs is it?. He might as well be joining a conference side. The current owners are showing that they are complete buffons when it comes to investing in the right sort of players, just give the manager some omney to invest in players.
If this is the case then i'd wish him the best of luck and thank him for some fantastic memories, especially at home to Swansea
