I guess it's to satisfy the armchair fans who can't watch every game on the tele. Extra midweek games would be the answer, but wait what about the poor tired players.
That's the one thing I do like about our league in that at least you know that most of the time, kick off is at 3pm on a Saturday or 7.45 on a Tuesday. There are occasions when it isn't and that is nearly always down to us being on TV. The championship, where we hope to be next year, is fairly similar with some additional games being later on Saturday. A friend of mine, who lives in Exmouth has a Villa season ticket. He never knows where he is until about a month before. If its a Monday night, he simply cant go due to work commitments. Even a 4pm Sunday makes a fairly late return. TV money talks, but it does seem a shame to me when the armchair fans dictate
It's got nothing to do with money - hang on a minute, yes it does. Before you know it all football will be only on a pay per view basis but then it appears that TV in it's entirety is going that way and of course the cynical me says that they are only doing this to decrease my monthly satellite costs - wake up Mike.
Kicked my sky out years ago when it first went pay per view- It was bad enough paying a monthly subscription (I generally only watched the sport) for channels I never saw and then they wanted even more. Cant say I miss it. Hardly watch TV at all and the savings I make help pay for my travel to home games.
We still have the remnants of Setanta over here masquerading as another channel but still asking optimal monthly fees which is why I won't bother with them. Getting ripped off enough with all the service fees to stay in touch with the real world and perhaps a boycott of the most expensive channels, but then what would I do with the armchair?
It's always pay for view, you pay to watch it in the grounds or you pay to watch it on TV. Bit like sex I suppose you might think it's free at home but you pay one way or the other.
