The Spanish striker is on the shortlist for the PFA Player of the Yearawards on Sunday and it's easy to see why. His goals per game ratio of 0.79 is better than any other forward to have scored five or more goals in the league this season. He ranks third in terms of number of goals (19) and also ranks third for shot accuracy (63.2 per cent). With only three assists to his name though, he only comes eighth in terms of assists. please log in to view this image Fiery figure: Diego Costa hasn't made many friends outside of Stamford Bridge but he won't care That gives him the joint best overall record across the four different categories along with Charlie Austin. Austin has the league's best shot accuracy rating 67.1 per cent, ranks fourth for assists (four), fourth for goals (17) and the sixth in terms of goals per game (0.57). Two forwards are tied in third place - Alexis Sanchez and Harry Kane. Kane currently has the joint highest goal tally (20) and the third best goals per game ratio (0.69). However, he only ranks eighth for assists (three). please log in to view this image Instant hit: Alexis Sanchez has impressed since moving to Arsenal from Barcelona last summer Sanchez's goals per game ratio of 0.48 is the eighth best, but he has the best assist record (eight in total) and the second best shot accuracy (65 per cent). Sergio Aguero comes fifth overall despite being the current joint top scorer. His goals per game ratio is the second best (0.71) and his total number assists is also the second best (six). However, despite his 20 goals, Aguero has been somewhat wasteful in front of goal and only ranks 13th for shot accuracy (52.6 per cent). please log in to view this image Premier League top 10 strikers (2014/15) Player Goals Goals per Game Shot accuracy Assists Diego Costa 19 0.79 63.2 3 Charlie Austin 17 0.57 67.1 4 Harry Kane 20 0.69 60.9 3 Alexis Sanchez 14 0.48 65 8 Sergio Aguero 20 0.71 52.6 6 Olivier Giroud 14 0.67 55.3 3 Wayne Rooney 12 0.41 50 5 Papiss Cisse 11 0.58 56.3 1 Wilfried Bony 10 0.4 52.4 2 Robin van Persie 10 0.42 45.3 2 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/diego-costa-charlie-austin-revealed-5564615?
Cheers 999's - fantastic to see some of the R's getting recognition for their efforts. The thing I find puzzling is with Austin as one of the top three strikers and Phillips as one the top three assists, how come we are in the bottom three??? I can only put it down to having the worst defenders and goalkeeper in the Premier League!
His footwork is poor? Can't rember him ever trying any mazy dribbles up the pitch myself! Yes, his kicking isn't the best but if you take out a couple of bad ones it's probably about average. Also he is a fantastic shot stopper and has excellent handling. Were it not for his excellent form this season we would be dead and burried, hence why he has earned an Englnad recall, kept McCarthy on the bench and is being touted as going to Chelsea next season, these are not signs of the worst keeper in the league!
Good, hopefully this will add some more £$£ for when he sadly leaves us which as we all know could be this summer. I hope not anyway but won't be surprised.
I didn't see the bit about shot "stopper" at first and thought this was about Charlie as the thread name. I agreed and only wondered why his lack of pace had gone unmentioned! In fact though Charlie does have another top attribute other than his finishing, his defending at set pieces is pretty good.
Goals against is not down to Green, it's due to the terrible defence in front of him as you can see from the photo he easily has the most saves of any keeper, without him we would have been down five or so games ago.
