This is part (b). You said that Levy only sacks managers who don't get a top 6 finish. But Jol, Redknapp and AVB all finished 5th or better. Did they all go against the board as you claimed would be the other factor ?
To save time here. Jol was sacked cause Levy thought he could get an upgrade with Ramos. He was wrong. Redknapp was sacked for chasing the England job and trying to push Levy into a new contract at the very worst time. AVB proved to be out of his depth.
where did Jol and AVB end up, are they still managing? i thought AVB should have stayed as a number 2 (like Steve McLaren) and not be the manager
So none of them went against the board ? I know Redknapp was flirting with the England job, but he was doing a decent job at Spurs and to be fair he's right in saying that you've been a major disappointment since he left. Jol was sacked in a cowardly way (didn't he receive his notice at HT during a game, after half the stadium already had found out ?) AVB was the fall guy for Levy sanctioning a massive spending spree which went tits up. According to reports AVB only wanted two players, but Levy largely wasted the Bale money. How long do you think levy will give Pooch ? And what is the minimum he needs to achieve ?
Firstly, yes Rednapp flirted with the Englsnd job, and he probably took his eye off the ball at Spurs, which meant that we slipped from the 3rd place that we should have had. Rednapp, through, also had the benefit at that time of three world class players in Bale, Modric, & VDV. As for what harry has said, he still can't keep his mouth shut now. A major failing of his, I'm afraid, and I'm sure it contributed to the decision to get rid. Jol, I completely agree. He was treated appallingly, in my view. AVB, was also a bad selection. What you've missed through all this is a character named Baldini! Our so called DOF. Many of our signings were down to him, not Levy. Unfortunately, when you sell the world's most expensive player, everybody knows you have that money and the price of anything and everything rises dramatically. In short, Many of our disastrous managerial appointments can be laid at Levy's door, IMO. Selection of signings, far less so.
If Redknapp had had the professionalism of AVB, I think Levy would have had his perfect manager. Neither fitted (for their own individual failings), hence the "going against board policy." As for Jol, most Spurs fans I know, including me, believe that he was Levy's one big mistake. In short, Levy was far too hasty in getting rid of him, and he acted wrongly.
That's hardly going against the board, that's just not fitting in. Going against the board would be acting in a way that directly challenged the instructions that had been given from the board, neither of them did that. Nice attempt at wriggling out of the fact that all three finished 5th or better though
None of us knows what actually happened, but something did happen. Only a complete muppet would believe that Levy sacks people for the sheer hell of it. Finishing 5th was a good result for Spurs, in all of those seasons, so whatever it was that triggered their dismissals, it wasn't performance; it must have been something other than that.
I don't believe that Levy is deluded. No doubt he's ambitious, but I see that as a good thing, not a bad thing. I think what ultimately did for AVB was that he began to lose the dressing-room. You cannot have that at any club. Plus the fact that few Spurs fans thought that the appointment of AVB was a good idea. If Levy made a mistake with AVB, it was appointing him, in the first place. Personally, I thought that Levy did only to get back at Chelsea, but it backfired on him; that's my personal view on the matter. With Redknapp, there was clearly some friction, at the end, between him and Levy, and the fact that Redknapp got sacked did not surprise me, nor disappoint me. I am one of a handful of Spurs fan who never wanted him at the club, and who always suspected that it would end ugly.
I met his son once. Nice enough kid although predictably a bit of a nerd from memory. Mike Ashley's daughter however should be in Nuts magazine.
You mean like the power-shift ? Nothing's happening their either HIAG There was no indication with Jol, Redknapp or AVB that anything was going on other than Levy's misplaced expectation about what they should be achieving. Whilst it's good to be ambitious, he also needs to be realistic about where Spurs are in the scheme of things. He also needs to give his managers the time, space and freedom to put their own stamp on the club instead of tearing it all up and starting again when it doesn't work out straight away.
