Premier League refs get tasers

In the wake of criticism from Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger referees will be armed with tasers to deal with unruly players, managers and fans, writes Crispin Fisher.

George Watson, who is responsible for training and monitoring the performance of referees at the FA, said: “We decided to arm referees with Walther PPK handguns to deal with amount of physical and verbal abuse in the game.

“But apparently that’s not allowed in UK law, so we’ve gone for our second choice of tasers instead.”
