On the Leicester forum, there was a debate about Fryatt and a few others bieng PL quality and I just wondered, who out of our players can make the step up to the PL? I reckon Stewart, Evans, Cairney (It suits there style of play), Mannone (Not ours though), Koren and maybe Fryatt (If he can continue like he did Vs Donny).

Andy dawson premiership veteran of two years! I'm fairly confident Chesters good enough, although he lacks pace, which he makes up for with his reading of the game. But i suppose he may get found out at top level, same with Gerrard. But until they get the chance, you just can't say for definite. Also Rosy would be fine.

We'd have to spend a fair bit to even compete in the top flight.

Our squad would need alot of improvement all over the place.

People like Simpson, Dawson, Stewart, Hobbs, Gerrard, Chester would be good covering players in terms of a squad but i'd get some others in. I'd say Koren, Rosenior, Mannone, Evans and Fryatt (maybe) would just about cut it.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about Rosenior. He is more than capable in the top flight, I personally rate him more than I did Sam Ricketts and look where he is now!

The thing is it needs that regardless of what division we're in (more than 10 signings including replacing/signing the loans permanently). We'd do better going up this season and signing them all for an empty squad than having to sign a load of players for the Championship on 2or 3 year contracts and then being stuck with a big squad in the PL before we start making signings.

I've done a calculation , at the current rate in the Championship Matty Fryatt is scoring an average of 24-25 goals a season for us (9 in 17)

How many goals does it take to be Premier League standard? I think he could get at least 10

Rosenior, Mannone, Evans, Chester, Stewart, Koren and Harper (<laugh>)

I agree with the OP about Cairney, I think he would suit the Premier League better. It'd be interesting to see Belaid in the top flight as well, as I think he may be the same.

As for Fryatt, at the minute I'd say 50:50. But let's not forget he's 25, and most outfield players reach their peak at around 28. By then - why not!

It would be far better if we did go up this year as we would not be stuck with a team that got us out of this division but are not quite good enough to make it in the PL. However it all depends on how we work in the transfer market, if we go into the transfer window and buy players like Chester and Stewart who have all developed at top clubs but are not just ready yet that might actually be the best method. As hopefully 'if' we get into the Premier League they will be ready.

However we are talking like it is a foregone conclusion that if we don't go up this year we will next year when i highly doubt it will be that easy.
