After seeing someones sig on here counting down from 40 points to how many we have left to ''survive'' (can't remember whos it was now), thought I'd waste best part of half an hour of my working day looking through previous Prem tables and checking whether or not 40 points does actually guarantee survival. Page I found is here: http://www.premierleague.com/page/Statistics/0,,12306,00.html Some quite interesting things you can look at over different seasons with the drop down menus (including Sieb Dykstra being the tallest premier league player for a couple of seasons, quite the accolade). Since the Prem has been 38 games long, only 3 times has 40 points not been enough to survive - 96-97 Coventry went down with 41, 97-98 Bolton went down with 40, 02-03 West Ham went down with 42. Had me thinking with Norwich winning again last night that 40 may well not be enough this season as the general quality (i know its early days) from the promoted teams looks to be fairly good in comparison to previous seasons. Also trawling through that site makes me realise how much about football you forget over the years. I never realised Derby finished a season in the Prem with just 1 win and 11 points! Nor did I remember Man City being relegated as recently as the 00-01 season. In summary, you can tell my jobs really boring!!!
