Hopefully this is a taste of things to come..................

    http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/23012012/58/premier-league-uk-fans-free-air-premier-league-match.html

The first free-to-air Premier League match in the 20-year history of the division will be broadcast next month.

League leaders Manchester City's home clash against Fulham on February 4 will be shown on ESPN on Freeview as part of a taster weekend during which the subscription channel will be available for all viewers.

Since the inception of the Premier League in 1992, all Premier League football has been broadcast in the UK on pay TV channels.

The weekend's coverage will also include live Serie A and Bundesliga football.

"This is a great opportunity for us to introduce that to millions more and let them sample the programming ESPN has on offer," ESPN chief Jeroen Oerlemans said.

Fantastic news Waddo. Tis a pity that we are not on the box, just think of ALL the millions of viewers who would be able to see the Mighty Potters at the Fortress Brit, not just the highlights.

    Oh hang on a mo,

I don't think its the first free-to-air premier league match, In September 2010 I watched Stoke for free on ESPN as part of the same type of preview taster sample day; although it may have been Setanta at the time

Yeah, that was Setanta, against Newcastle I think. I couldn't get a ticket, subscribed to Setanta for a month, and then it turned out it was free!

    Just remember
We don't subside to SkY Waddo but we're currently watching ESPN as a "taster" until first week in Feb.
I do have a spare Freeview box, but it won't work on the new digital signal.
We have a Virgin cable box with usually NO ESPN... Does this still mean we would have to subscribe or not guys? My oppinon, apart from the odd prem game it's crap unless you like to watch Dunbarton v Inverness, just an example of course. Most shown are Scottish League games. Not interested in them at all.

Does that link read correctly as NTL had told us nothing about this? re free footie.

    Waddo
I had a messege from Virgin medie and email and it's telling me I can pick up ALL ESPN prog's UNTIL Feb 4th... a coincidence Waddo? No it ins't.
They have told me it's a "taster" from mid Jan until Feb 4th.. I have watched a few Prem games English that's fine. But for me they are just tempting anyone to subscribe even those who have a tv with freeview. Honestly, I think it's a con Waddo.

NO OFFENCE intended Waddo, I will, when I have time send you a P.M. of that e-mail I had..

No worries Potts. I remember a few years back signing up to sky sports to watch prem games only to find that they did not show them all and that ESPN had them as well and if I wanted to watch them games it was even more money even though i was a sky sports subsciber so yes mate it's all a con. Hence why I find decent live feeds on the net :)

    Cheers Waddo <cheers>
For what it's worth, I did subscribe to Sky for a year basically one season and I think it's not worth the cost as I have a season ticket anyway.
Neither will I take up the offer from ESPN.. but must say, I'm enjoying the Brighton Newcastle game right now on ESPN Score is 0-0 as I type.. <laugh>

Great result today Waddo, thanks again buddie. <ok> And, keep posting those links for away game that would be FANTASTIC. Well done to the 5,5039 who went today.
<applause> Sounded like we did a proffesional job. WELL DONE one and all.

Regarding availability of free ESPN, apparently it is only free for those who have the option to upgrade. i.e Sky, Virgin and BT vision customers. As you view your listings, if the ESPN channels are shown in the listings (despite not actually being available), you will have it free, but for most freeview boxes, where upgrading is not possible, no free sports I'm afraid.
