Afternoon all, Was having a chat with a mate down the gym (while clearly working our arses off!) about who our player of the season should be (so far) and both of us found it hard to think of an outright favourite. The likes of Vertonghen, Bale, Lennon, Dawson (since coming back), Sandro (pre-injury) have all been very impressive which makes it a tough choice. So with that said, adding a few other awards in, I thought I'd get the opinions of you lot So: Player of the season: Player of the season runner up: Young player of the season: Breakthrough player of the season: Worst player of the season: Worst player of the season runner up: Goal of the season: Game of the season: Loanee of the season: Mine would be: Player of the season: Jan Vertonghen - 1st season in England and looks a Prem veteran. Fantastic signing. Player of the season runner up: Aaron Lennon - Has had to do two jobs this season as a winger and full back! Been fantastic, work rate has been second to none. Young player of the season: Tom Carroll - A first team place is surely soon to be his?! Breakthrough player of the season: Carroll again? Worst player of the season: Kyle Walker - Words can't describe how poor he's been. Worst player of the season runner up: Emmanuel Adebayor - Misses open goals for fun. Goal of the season: Bale vs Norwich - Run was fantastic and a finish to match it. Game of the season: Man Utd 2-3 Tottenham Hotspur - Obvious choice really. Loanee of the season: Adam Smith (Millwall) - Earning positive reviews, has established himself in the U-21's and his form leads me to believe he can be our future RB if Walker's form doesn't improve. Though Townsend is impressing at QPR.
Player of the season: Bale Player of the season runner up: Vertonghen Young player of the season: Townsend (at QPR) Break throughplayer of the season: Caulker Worst player of the season: Walker Worst player of the season runner up: Adebayor Goal of the season: Bale vs Wet Spam Game of the season: Utd also Loanee of the season: Townsend
I just stuck Carroll in for that too mate, even though he broke through last year, he's really improved this season.
Player of the season: Bale Player of the season runner up: Lennon Young player of the season: Caulker Break throughplayer of the season: Caulker Worst player of the season: Adebayor Worst player of the season runner up: Gallas Goal of the season: Bale against West Ham Game of the season: 3-2 against Utd Loanee of the season: Townsend
I've somehow missed virtually all his appearances this season. I've barely seen him tbh. Glad he's doing well though, obviously KH - OOh, Caulker, i forgot about him. I'm gonna change my answers
Player of the season: Bale Player of the season runners up: Lennon, Demblele, Vertonghen, Sandro, Dawson, Beni Young player of the season: Caulker (though Bale's pretty young...) Break through player of the season: Caulker Worst player of the season: ? Worst player of the season runner up: ? Goal of the season: Defoe vs. West Ham Game of the season: Utd Loanee of the season: Townsend
Player of the season: Bale - has to be our one-man team surely? Player of the season runner up: Vertonghen - just pipping Azza and Dembele (yes, hands up all those who had forgotten Moussa??) Young player of the season: Carroll - but the competition isn't exactly stiff!!! Breakthrough player of the season: Caulker - for us anyway, as some would say that last year was his 'breakthrough' year. Worst player of the season: Walker - for some reason, I find Kyles demise this year the most disappointing issue! Worst player of the season runner up: Ade - for reasons both in and out of his control. Whatever the reasons, his goal ratio is just not good enough. Goal of the season: Bale v Wet Spam - just such a significant strike to win a game in the 91st minute. Dembeles goal v Lyons may prove to be very important..... Game of the season: ManUre away - run a close 2nd by the NLD as we overcame a couple of recent heavy defeats and won a game that had one helluva lot riding on it. Loanee of the season: From a impact point of view probably Townsend, but overall I am going to go for Rose, who from all the Sunderland supporters I speak to has been one their best players all season.
The Man Utd game was the game of the millennium... OK, that a massive exaggeration but I can see why it's the running favourite for the season. Still available for download https://mega.co.nz/#!PElSmaib!WOS0mUJN1lephvHokznjmhkfMgdimVmW5aYvc63UieE (938.0 MB)
Player of the season: Sandro. Player of the season runner up: Bale. Lennon, Dawson, Dembele, Vertonghen and Lloris have all been very impressive, though. Young player of the season: Has to be Caulker, really. Friedel? Breakthrough player of the season: Caulker again, if you don't include his time at Swansea. Worst player of the season: Don't really like to do this, but I'd have to agree and say Walker, as his form's nosedived horribly. Worst player of the season runner up: Huddlestone. He's looked appallingly off the pace whenever he's played, which is probably quite understandable, but still. Goal of the season: I'm going to go for Bale's v Norwich, just to be different! Game of the season: Spurs 3-0 Inter. The win at Old Trafford was more special, but the performance in this game was just top draw. Loanee of the season: Smith at Millwall. Despite being dropped recently, his form in the first half of the season was exceptional, by all accounts.
Player of the season: Vertonghen - what SOS says. has adapted so well and been a rock for us. Player of the season runner up: Lennon - most improved player. Looks to be getting better and better under AVB Young player of the season: Caulker - Continued to grow as a footballer this year and looks like a top talent Breakthrough player of the season:Carrol - looks great in his cameo appearances and a real prospect for us. Worst player of the season: Adebayor - So disappointing in many ways. Offered us very little this season. Worst player of the season runner up: Dempsey - same as Adebayor Goal of the season: Bale V west ham Game of the season: Both united games for different reasons. Loanee of the season: Townsend I expect most people will be putting Walker as worst player of the season. However, everyone should consider how good he and Lennon have been offensively, when making their decision. Yes he's been poor at the back, but at least he's offered us something decent going forwards and always tried hard. Other players have done bugger all.
Player of the season: Bale Player of the season runners up: Lennon, Demblele, Vertonghen, Sandro, Young player of the season: Caulker Break through player of the season: Caulker Worst player of the season: Ade / Defoe Worst player of the season runner up: Walker (does have 4 assists though) Goal of the season: Bale vs. Utd Game of the season: Utd (Because I genuinly thought we would get smashed. I had half an eye on the game, but was on my Xbox. that lasted about 5mins before Super man scored!) Loanee of the season: Townsend
Player of the season: Lennon (has been very consitent) would have been Sandro if he hadn't been injured Player of the season runner up: Vertongen (as above) Young player of the season: Caulker Breakthrough player of the season: Carrol Worst player of the season: Adebayor (He has so much ability so his lack of goals is criminal) Worst player of the season runner up: (Parker - is he the same player from last season?) Goal of the season: Defoe v west ham Game of the season: United at OT Loanee of the season: Andros Townsend
Player of the season: Bale Player of the season runner up: Vertonghen Young player of the season: Caulker Breakthrough player of the season: Caulker Worst player of the season: Adebayor Worst player of the season runner up: Walker Goal of the season: Bale's first vs Lyon Game of the season: Man Utd away Loanee of the season: Adam Smith...when Millwall used him.
Surprised to see so many choosing Bale. IMO, he didn't stand out at all until 2-3 months ago when he started grabbing the headlines. It's a shame he gets all the attention really, as it undermines the effort of other players who have been our "spine" this season.
Know what you mean Roo, but you also have to reflect on the impact that one player has had on our season - and it is not as if he has ONLY been performing in the last couple months - his goal against ManUre was hardly insignificant. Sandro was brilliant but only cntributed for half a season before injury, Verts has been excellent - both at the start and recently, although went through a 'quiet' period. Dembele the same. Arguably the most consistent (and improved) player this season has been Lennon, but I wouldn't choose him as POTS over Bale.
Suprised no one has mentioned Lloris, would be my Runner-up player of the season, behind Bale,as thedefence has really tightned up since he took over in goal
