Bit of a mixed bag, but only 6/36 promoted teams were relegated in the 1st Championship season. Probably what you'd expect as they would presumably be decent sides to get promoted. Only Norwich went directly through. Interesting. Wonder how the teams relegated from the Prem did; how many went back up?

Leicester are just panic buying to me, they have the money at their disposal & buying what ever & who ever seems to be the 'talked about name' of the moment. We might have the money but I would much rather a board like ours that have their heads screwed on & looking for players that will make a difference & not just filling up a squad because they can. Look at Man City they buy all these names, but cna they keep them all happy? No!?!

We all know that NA & NC will have a plan in place & names they would like, & deals are more than likely in progress at the moment, just doesnt need to be made a public matter. We have a great squad, who have geled as a unit & work well, just need a couple of names to add more depth & competition.

Since you ask:

2010-11
Burnley 8th
Hull 11th
Pompey 16th

2009-10
Newcastle - 1st
Middlesbrough - 11th
West Brom - 2nd

2008-09
Reading - 4th (P-O semi)
Birmingham - 2nd
Derby - 18th

2007-08
Charlton - 11th
Sheffield Utd - 9th
Watford - 6th (P-O semi)

2006-07
Birmingham - 2nd
West Brom - 4th (lost P-O final)
Sunderland - 1st

2005-06
Crystal Palace - 6th (P-O semi)
Norwich - 9th
Southampton - 12th

2004-05
Leicester City - 15th
Leeds Utd - 14th
Wolves - 9th

2003-04
West Ham - 5th (lost P-O final)
West Brom - 2nd
Sunderland - 3rd (P-O semi)

2002-03
Ipswich - 7th
Derby - 18th
Leicester - 2nd

2001-02
Man City - 1st
Coventry - 11th
Bradford - 15th

2000-01
Wimbledon - 8th
Sheffield W - 17th
Watford - 9th

1999-00
Charlton - 1st
Blackburn - 11th
Nottingham Forest - 14th

So I make that 8 promotions out of 36.

Thanks..knew someone couldn't resist looking it up. So, not a high number go straight back up, again because we must assume they weren't very good in the first place. The increased parachute payments may affect that, so it will become harder for other teams.

Pardew did a great job of constructing the team. He quickley saw Lallana, Scheniderlin & Davies as the starmen and went about building a side in a season who did brilliantly in the cups and missed out on the play offs.
That squad was bolstered with more players with Championship experience ready for our impending promotion.

A few ups and downs with Pardews exit, but since his arrival Adkins has tweaked the squad, got them together and made them believe.

It's maybe more hope than expectation, but I love the fact the players (Lambert & Martin) are talking of promotion this year. Why not? At this level of football there is not much which seperates teams, but that confidence and belief can carry a team through. Look at Norwich and Blackpool. Individually you would not think a great deal of all the players, but belief and will to win took them to the premier league and it very nearly kept Blackpool there against all the odds.

I think some fans are taking for granted the real acheivement of the Cortese reign and thats no player has left this football club without us wanting them too. When was the last time Saints went so long without losing a top player?
