GILLINGHAM FC please log in to view this image brb prediction league (Incorporating pre match thread, score line predictions, league, group) Previous winners: 2010/11 - Bristol407 2009/10 - GillsGrl1966 So now preparing for a 3rd season in 2011/12. Would you like to take part, it's entirely free and for a bit of fun throughout the season. What I will do during pre season is rewriting the rules, for publishing on not606 our new home due to the closure of BBC606. I'm basically preparing for any links we may lose. I'm currently looking at restricting the prediction league to 40 members next season - we already have 26 members in the brb prediction thread GROUP, all will automatically be entered on to my spreadsheet for next season. I have an entirely brand new (kindly donated) spreadsheet, which I hope is going to do a lot of the work for me in regards to creating tables etc. So 14 places left, some current members have still not accepted invites in to the GROUP, so to help me prepare, hurry up and fill the remaining 14 places. Please remember entry is based on you having accepted an invite to the GROUP, it is not solely based on whether you was in the league this season. You don't have to be a Gills fan to enter, I currently have a Charlton & Huddersfield fan that took part in the season just gone and have also entered the group. If you require entry to the league please register your interest below - GROUP members do not need to do so. thanks brb

Livo - 30 members now Marco - I cannot understand, why anyone did not predict those two results last season, think if you got the goal scorers right as well

Blue, I used to keep a manual chart of all the predictions then just add the game points into spreadsheet but nothing stopping you adding another worksheet to the spreadsheet (I gave you) to keep match predictions on then you could use 'sort' to chart match scores. What I was going to do was have a goals multiplier for score predictions so - 0 to 3 goals in game gets 6 points for correct prediction (plus scorer points plus bonus for correct score and all scorers) 4 to 7 goals in game gets 9 points for correct prediction (plus scorer points plus bonus for correct score and all scorers) 8 + goals in game gets 12 points for correct prediction (plus scorer points plus bonus for correct score and all scorers) that sort of thing, encourages people to guess high
AllHell - thanks for the suggestion. Out of 46 games last season and 1 bonus game, there was around 15 games, where no one predicted correctly, therefore obtaining no points on the board that week. There appears to be 2 reasons for this: 1. Being a Gills prediction league, there will always be bias within it. 2. Most posters tend not to predict more than 3 goals in a game, hence where your scoring suggestion comes in useful. I will be rewriting the rules, so I will gather all these ideas together.
AllHell - just been putting that 12 / 9 / 6 point formula into the spreadsheet, to test it - was not paying proper attention and messed it right up, went and entered the wrong formula in to the entire sheet and saved! Couldn't be asked to sort it, so just downloaded it again, got it right second time I'm impressed with it mate, seen other sheets like it but far more complicated, that one keeps to the basics, whilst taking out all the hard work.
Do you want our predictions now or can we wait until the fixtures are published? On a more constructive note I did have a quibble about the allocation of points. Some credit should be given for getting the outcome right (win/lose/draw). it seems wrong to me that someone who gets the score right once and the outcome wrong nine times, gets more points than someone who gets the outcome correct ten times but never predicts the correct score.
bristol - it's a valid point you raise, however, having tested the win/lose/draw scenario with the mini competition, I had originally decided against it, even with the use of my new spreadsheet. It's simpler and easier for me, when I get home from a game to just look down for the correct score lines and then implement the additional goal scorer points from that. Having considered the idea, the brb prediction league has always been about predicting the correct score line on a pre match thread - I know on the noircat leagues (an excellent league), they use the win, lose, draw scenario, however, all the predictions are put in at the beginning of the season - whereas I prefer the competition to run on a match by match basis. To take on your view: I have mentioned earlier in the thread, that there was something like 15 matches, where no correct score line was predicted. So how about in those particular matches, where there is no correct score line, I will then revert to allocating 3 points for every correct outcome i.e. half the NEW lowest points total for a correct prediction. Although there will be no points for correct scorers in this scenario. I feel with the above, it will not mean any additional work after any one game, just a balance. Views?
