I agree - Skrtel has been part of an underperforming back line for years, as was Johnson. Things can't be worse without them, so give the youngsters a go.

However, I suspect one of Gomez and Ilori will go out on loan.

Yes Lallana 1-1. great ball over to the left side of the box by Milner, Lallana takes in down, cuts inside/dummies the defender, makes a yard of space and curls it into the top right.

Nice finish from Lallana. Hope to see that more often this season. Bottled far too many chances last season.

Looking at the goal we conceded - where was the midfield? We have Lucas, Hendo and Milner - 3 'hard workers' and not one was closing down.

He's special as well - one of the best young defenders in Europe IMO. Two footed, already has good reading of the game, intelligence. He will make mistakes because he's young but has the pace to recover.

Didn't know too much about Gomez before he came so ended up watching a few of his games and read thoughts/opinions from coaches - I can see why he is highly regarded. Touted to be an England international.
 
Does anyone on here remember rob jones.... 300k from crew at 19 just turning 20.

Gomez has the potential. Playing lb right now and not phasing him at all.
 
Gomez is already miles better than Stones

Hopefully it will take a while for the news to make its way to dinosaur Roy

Was a bit too young to have seen him live, but I heard from a number of people that he was one of the best English fullbacks in the game. Needless to say, I downloaded a few old matches and saw him - I can see why.

Shame injuries ended his career.
 
Still have concerns over the midfield. Milner and Henderson lack intelligence, positioning and creativity. They're just hard workers. They don't know how to dominate a midfield, keep possession and dictate tempo.

He was good.. but best in the game goes too far. Huge impact for a 20 year old as he turned 20 after signing.

I saw him and gomez has the potential here to have an impact.
