Parker On Pre-Season Wednesday 9 July 2014 17:03 Pre-season training under Felix Magath has been tough but enjoyable, says Fulham midfielder Scott Parker. The Whites are being put through their paces ahead of a new season for the first time under the German boss. And Parker has been impressed by Magathâs methods as the Whites look to start the Sky Bet Championship campaign in a positive fashion. âTrainingâs been really good,â Parker told the official website. âItâs been intense but we wouldnât expect it or want it any other way ahead of a new season. âThe gaffer is working us hard and the boys are looking sharp as a result. Everyoneâs raring to go. âThere are a lot of young boys in the squad so theyâre eager to impress and there are a few new signings as well who are looking to show what they can do. âWe want to hit the ground running. There are a lot of opportunities for everyone in the squad and that makes it a good environment for everyone.â Of the new signings, the Fulham squad have been joined in recent days by Ross McCormack, last seasonâs top scorer in the Championship with Leeds United. Itâs a capture that Parker is impressed by, with the former Tottenham Hotspur man adding: âItâs a statement of intent from the Owner and the Club as we try and bounce back into the Premier League as quick as we can. Thatâs obviously our aim this year. âRoss had a great season last year; he scored a lot of goals in a Leeds team who werenât up near the top of the table. Itâs good to have him on board.â Parker and the majority of Fulhamâs First Team squad are currently based in Scotland as they play three pre-season friendlies north of the border. Parker played the first half of Saturdayâs 3-0 win at East Fife, with Fulham taking on Rangers in a behind-closed-doors encounter at the Ibrox clubâs training ground on Thursday, before a date with Motherwell this weekend. The 33-year-old, who wore the Captainâs armband against the Fifers, is looking forward to the two tests against the Gers and âWell. âThe first few pre-season games are always quite tough,â he said. âYouâre not really looking at the performance side of it, youâre just looking to add to your fitness and get up to speed as quickly as you can. But the lads did very well at East Fife. âWe have two good tests coming up against Rangers and Motherwell. Both will be tough games. Motherwell have got a Europa League game the following week so theyâre probably a little bit ahead of us in terms of pre-season fitness. But weâll be more than ready to give them a game.â
The Club's (not not entirely subtle) response to Hangeland's criticism of Felix earlier today on SkySports News. The Brede stuff was just repeating what he said before and I've no idea what he hoped to gain.
Parker is very much stepping into the captaincy role , or at least the club want him to. I fully expect him to be club captain this year. I can't believe I'm about to say this but apart from Stek, who's probably gone, he's our only 30+ player.
I thought bringing Parker in last winter was a good idea. He's a winner who's competed at the highest level, so I was surprised he didn't perform as well as I'd expected this spring when we really needed his experience, organization and quality. Nonetheless, I think he's the perfect man to be captain for us as long as he can cope with the helter-skelter pace of the Championship.

Indeed, like the club said: "Brede signed a new multi-million-pound contract 16 months ago and at no point mentioned he felt club wasn't moving forward"
