Watched the footage of the pre season games and especially the "proper" Cheltenham game on Tuesday. A few things stood out and surprised me. Now I know it's "only" Cheltenham, but firstly that was some very good on the floor team football that we've rarely seen for a few years now - the passing and understanding was far and away improved even without the influence of Tomlin. Secondly, we're talking about the youngsters, but this pre season has thrown up some unexpected if not forgotten heroes who are really trying hard. I give you Bacuna, Flint and Glatzel. Bacuna was energetic and everywhere influencing the game. Flint looked like he's been working hard to slim down lean and mean to the extent that he had a point to prove. Glatzel looks like he not only wants to keep that No. 9 shirt but he wants to wear on the pitch not the bench. Has Harris not only got the right mix in the squad but the right attitude and pupose to do something this season? OK, bigger fish to come and we all believe we need some cover in the obvious positions mentioned recently. If we get that I can honestly see this side competing hard for a top 6 spot at least.
I've said it before, Harris has grown on me. Evolution not revolution. Also backing up his words with actions. A different animal from colin, but possibly adept at the man management side not just the coaching. As always, lets see where we are after 10 games, but he seems to be making an impression on his charges. IF he can get Tomlin fit, IF he can get Murphy's head right, IF he can integrate the youngsters and IF he can sort plans B and C, its up we'll be looking not down, be that 8th looking at 6th or 4th looking at second. Glatzel should steal a march on Moore who is away on international duty and will be fighting to keep the shirt. From what I've seen / read of pre-season a number of formations have been seen with 342 and 442 used as well as 4231. I think the latter is Harris' plan A. Be nice to have players comfortable in the other formations though. Horses for courses or to change a game. I repeat, I'm feeling optomistic.
I'm very much liking what I'm seeing and hearing. I think in the past we''ve been correctly very critical of managers for not having a plan B. I have to say that with Harris I'm seeing a squad that offers numerous options. Two strikers competing for a place but within a squad that has goals everywhere. The team spirit seems as solid as it's ever been and most importantantly, the players have realised that the ball is not going to explode in their faces if they hold it for a second. I have high hopes for this season.
Moore just had a goal disallowed after 4 mins. Bit of a 50 - 50 push in the build up, but a good goal. Couldnt be @rsed starting a new thread.
Ralls and Tomlin both likely to miss the start is a blow. However its a sqaud that will get us up. I really hope with the 2 out he doesn't try Moore and Glatzel in the same line up. I think we will finish 4th.
Moore just got a simple tap in. Not sure what the hair band is about. He's hardly a hippy. We had a striker a few years ago wore an alice band. Keep think8ng Steve Thompson, but not sure it was.
Left it at the back of my brain for a bit, doused it in red wine then slept on it. Sure enough, as soon as I stopped thinking about it, it came to me. Alan Lee.
You have to be in there to tap.it in. Definitely going to massively improve us I presume he will be rested next Saturday . Id like to see Harris get a good run out.
Indeed. He got in some good positions during the game. Wales playing Bulgaria on Sunday so he wont be available anyway.
@ccfcremotesupport - take your pick of this lot - oh the memories......... https://www.walesonline.co.uk/incoming/gallery/classic-welsh-football-haircuts-2005577
It look a bit like another shot of Bobby Woodruff, but that badge is Chelsea and I don't think he ever played for them. Anyone any ideas?
What the hell did he have to do with Welsh football? Played mainly for Fulham and Chelsea and capped for Republic of Ireland. Another classic editorial error.
