Dont like that its only one game at home
Dont like going to the west cost of america
dont like that we are playing nothing teams, no offence, but Borussia are the only test (will probably beat us)
Dont like that we only have 5 weeks until the pre-season starts proper and we have no players

I have always been keen on getting players on board early, get them playing together and build something, especially youth wise, if you could get 7 talented 17 year olds and coach them all properly and get them all in the first squad and keep them, then you will destroy everyone, just like Barca. However, if you leave everything to the last minute, dont get the squad playing as a team and have alot of individuals you end up looking like Newcastle or QPR.

Gateshead will beat us. The only local side that has any passion [aside from North Shields.]

That is a shocking set of fixtures considering it is meant to get the team up to speed for a Premier League campaign. Apart from Borussia Mönchengladbach there is only inferior opposition and this seems to happen every season now. Many of the other EPL teams will be playing in mini-tournaments with other EPL and European teams and will get given a proper run out, not against ****e like ****ing Gateshead, York City and some no mark teams from the Americas. IMO the last three game of the pre-season should be against equal or better opposition to get the players at the right level for the first week of the campaign. Expect a slow start to the season.

It could be that 'big' teams don't want to play us. I suspect though that it's more a case of Ashley trying to expand Sports Direct exposure in North America [in terms of the American/ Mexican opposition.] Gateshead, we play every year. So I suspect it will be a youth team that goes there. I am just surprised that we aren't playing that many pre-season games.

Gateshead have made the Gateshead game all ticket
so they must be thinking that they are sending the first team
I remember going to Gateshead when for a pre season when Newcastle had signed
Ginola, Ferdinand and the re-signing of Beardsley
it was a sell out and still to this day the biggest crowd to watch gateGateshead at the
    International Stadium

Which begs the question of why? We should be trying to get stronger opposition if we are going to play our first team.

Good set of fixtures for me. I'd have maybe like to have seen York replaced by a championship side so you are kind of building towards something. The US thing is a good idea for advertising SD <laugh><laugh>

Also think this is a good warm up set. Suspect Gateshead game is there as a warm-up before US games and will see a lot of first team played. Of course US is a marketing trip - all teams are doing this now. Better to make it part of the pre-season rather than do what some teams are doing now and touring immediately season ends. Think our lot need a break now and a chance to think how badly they let us down in last half of season before starting again.

It's just come to my attention that Sacramento aren't even an MLS team. They play in the 'United Soccer League' which is division 3 in the USA. Our next game is against another team in the United Soccer League, Portland Timbers' reserve team. Staggering considering what I would say should be our our direct competition in the league, Everton, have just played Stoke and Arsenal in their last 2 games. No worries, though, we've got stern tests against third division Sheffield United and fourth divison York City to come when the lads get back.

Hey, we may hit the ground running but I'm just not happy about the build up this pre-season - and for the last few seasons if the truth be told. It's certainly not how I would be doing it.
