John Sheridan seems to be happy with pre-season training and will now be aiming his coaching towards next Saturdays league kick-off away to newly promoted Cambridge United. Argyle have an important week coming up and need to hit the ground running......Cambridge will be buzzing to make a good start in the Football League this time around....most promoted Conference teams are playing on a par with Div 2 clubs.....the Conference isn't an easy league to get out of.....ask Exeter and Torquay. Argyle follow up with two home games...a cup game against a rising Leyton Orient that will be difficult....followed by our first home league game against Exeter. These are both hard games and with our poor home record in recent seasons they could fashion our early season either to the good or bad .....having lost both are pre-season home games against stronger teams confidence will probably not be very high....but with new players not being part of that past set-up lets hope things will be different. The obvious good fibes from players about the new season have been reported....lets hope it's not pie in the sky this season. Looking at our pre-season results can be deceptive.....four of the six games against none league opposition makes you wonder if that is helpful.... we won only two and drew the other two...losing against Div 1 and Premier League teams in the other two. Playing such a mixture of first team and reserves/juniors means the only real thing is fitness levels for all players is brought on.....and the match results can be deceptive and mean not a lot. Sheridan has been reported as looking for two more players on loan....a defender and a mid-field player....he seems to have been rebuffed with a defender he thought he had lined up for next week....lets hope he has some success soon in finding those players.....the subs bench looks a little weak and needs players who can come on to change the way a match is going. Hold on to your hats we are soon having lift-off for a new season......prediction time is here again.
I have always hated pre season and only attend matches so i can work out who's who when the proper stuff starts. The matches against non league are all about match time and fitness whilst the swansea match was more for their benefit than ours. I think the best test was against yeovil and tbh I thought we did pretty well. Anyway it all counts for nought and just lets hope we start of with a couple of results and we definitely need to be better at home. Think we will be there or there abouts come next May-it might just allow the likes of punchdrunk say something positive about the club.
No he won't lyndhurst, he can't or else he would be hung on the other site. I don't do pre-season as said elsewhere and I don't put much store in who or how they play. The only matches that count for anything are in the league and start next Saturday. Every club starts with zero and they all have to play each other home and away. I do get the "find out who is who" thing lyndhurst. It takes me a few games to work out which is what and where they play. We seem to start with a fairly new side every season now and my memory isn't getting any better. I'm always optomistic when it all kicks off and the length of time that lasts depends how they start.
